But the thing is that owning one rarely protects the owner. I can’t find the exact numbers, but statistically, a gun owner is far more likely to use the firearm on themselves (either accidentally or intentionally) than they are to ever use it in true self defense.I've said this before
I would never own a gun here in the UK
However, if I had to live in the crazy gun country then I'd definitely make sure I also had a gun just to protect me from everyone else
It's a vicious cycle that will only be curbed by tighter laws and screening, which will sadly never happen
Attitudes towards, and lack of access to, mental health care is a huge issue. If we’re going to be the country that grants it’s citizens almost unfettered access to guns, then we damn sure don’t need to be the country that equates depression/anxiety/etc. with personal weakness and shames people for seeking help for those conditions.I know the easy answer here is to ban guns and that would take a massive step towards solving the problem. The underlying issue here though, what's causing it? It's almost always a former student going back with a grudge, there is more to it than access to weapons. For it to happen so regularly. What is the root cause?
Just heartbreaking news , not long dropped my daughter off at school and I can't imagine her not being here anymore at home time. Any parent affected by this , I cannot begin to understand their feelings.
Must be so frustrating.
The same cycle of mass shooting followed by the politicians voting to keep the weapons in the hands of the maniacs sending "thoughts and prayers".
Anyone in a position of power who looks at a school shooting and not thinking something has to change is just as evil as the perpetrator.
10 year olds mate, those actions are proof that the god these gun toting rednecks worship doesn't exist.
Pro life so no abortions for anyone, no matter the circumstances behind the pregnancy or decisions/reasons to abort (rape/incest/health issues for mother or foetus etc), because GOD said it’s wrong.and BIBLE QUOTES of course
That was my thoughts too, big fat security contracts for a few select companies I'd bet.All just grifting on the long con. NRA want paid to run the schools like republicans do the prisons and the evangelical churches want to control the publics access to the schools as well as dictating the education provided.
They think in decades and centuries, democrats need to play smarter.
