I've said this before

I would never own a gun here in the UK

However, if I had to live in the crazy gun country then I'd definitely make sure I also had a gun just to protect me from everyone else

It's a vicious cycle that will only be curbed by tighter laws and screening, which will sadly never happen
But the thing is that owning one rarely protects the owner. I can’t find the exact numbers, but statistically, a gun owner is far more likely to use the firearm on themselves (either accidentally or intentionally) than they are to ever use it in true self defense.

I know the easy answer here is to ban guns and that would take a massive step towards solving the problem. The underlying issue here though, what's causing it? It's almost always a former student going back with a grudge, there is more to it than access to weapons. For it to happen so regularly. What is the root cause?

Just heartbreaking news , not long dropped my daughter off at school and I can't imagine her not being here anymore at home time. Any parent affected by this , I cannot begin to understand their feelings.
Attitudes towards, and lack of access to, mental health care is a huge issue. If we’re going to be the country that grants it’s citizens almost unfettered access to guns, then we damn sure don’t need to be the country that equates depression/anxiety/etc. with personal weakness and shames people for seeking help for those conditions.

The thing is, the gun nuts are always quick to say “We don’t have a gun problem, we have a mental health problem.” after every school shooting, but then out the other side of their mouths say, “Most ‘mental illnesses’ are just made up.” You can’t have it both ways.

I keep attacking myself with imagining that fella walking in and a children looking at him.. then you have to stop.
The gut wrenching horror of that to get through 19. My empathy destroys me.

If that can't end the gun debate. Then the working class oppression will never relax. That should be cut and dry.

Every working man should down tools in thoer millions and pull congressmen out by the hair and not stop till guns laws are drastically and immediately changed.

Heartbreaking, absolutley heartbreaking.

I was helping getting the kids ready for school with the missus this morning, sorting their backpacks and kits, making their water bottles and it came on the tv, and it hit me like a tonne of bricks.

I can’t get my head around dropping them off at school in the morning and not being needed to pick them up at the end of ehe day, seeing their little smiling faces and getting a hug off them before we walk back to the car, because some maniac has butchered them in cold blood, and stolen them away from me!?!?

What those poor parents and families must be going through just beggars belief.

If this doesn’t prompt real change against the second amendment, nothing will - it’s just sick.

How is it on a regular basis kids get mass murdered with assault rifles and no one ever think of storming the capital and spraying every nra paid senator or congressman deflecting it away from gun laws.

how hasn't it not happened once.

if my kid died and I turn on fox and see them in the senate defending nra. I know where the next mass shooting will be happening.

Must be so frustrating.

The same cycle of mass shooting followed by the politicians voting to keep the weapons in the hands of the maniacs sending "thoughts and prayers".

Anyone in a position of power who looks at a school shooting and not thinking something has to change is just as evil as the perpetrator.

10 year olds mate, those actions are proof that the god these gun toting rednecks worship doesn't exist.

Pro life so no abortions for anyone, no matter the circumstances behind the pregnancy or decisions/reasons to abort (rape/incest/health issues for mother or foetus etc), because GOD said it’s wrong.

Did god also say that He will just let those same kids get taken out/butchered/murdered at school when they are 7yo instead by some gun totting nutcase….Or is it because their second amendment makes it so, and we can’t argue with hundreds of years old legislation so no worries, carry on - GODs happy.

Probably the most Funked up country in the world, and that’s really saying something.

All just grifting on the long con. NRA want paid to run the schools like republicans do the prisons and the evangelical churches want to control the publics access to the schools as well as dictating the education provided.
They think in decades and centuries, democrats need to play smarter.
That was my thoughts too, big fat security contracts for a few select companies I'd bet.
