Truly devastating and absolutely terrifying, but to be honest it’s part of the reason why we homeschool our kids, we know where they are because we can’t trust them to protect our kids. The other reason is partly down to the garbage education system, but we are lucky because my wife is a former teacher and I earn enough for us to do it. Our kids still meet up with other families regularly, but it gives us peace of mind.

I remember when I first moved over to the US, it freaked me out a bit due to all the people I have met here in the southwest that do open carry. My wife likes shooting and has owned a few guns, in these parts it is certainly a way of life. She has had a lot of training though and is very thorough in her safety checks and security procedures. Gunshots are definitely a regular thing, and I don’t mean just one or two, but I can’t say I will ever totally get used to it. A big problem is mental health and gun ownership for sure, with some who should never be anywhere near a gun slipping through the loopholes.

I think I have come to realize that the US is never going to be gun free, too many people own them, they are everywhere. It gets politicized but to be honest I know of a lot of democrats and republicans that own them. AK47’s, AR-15’s, you name them. One guy we know has their wall lined with them, like the guy in the first(?) tremors movie. Oh and in traffic I try to always stay calm, never piss anybody off, it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that somebody might pull out a gun a fire a few shots at your vehicle.

….just waking up to this & it’s like a broken record in the US, at some point surely common sense will prevail.

it’s not just another Mass shooting, it’s the thousands of senseless killings that settle trivial arguments where a punch or a push would normally be the outcome if there wasn’t such easy access to a firearm.

Sadly I don't have any faith common sense will prevail. Nothing changed after Sandy Hook either :( half the politicians are in bed with the NRA. They value money over lives and safety

The soul reason it's written into the constitution is so the government doesn't become tyrannical.

Doesn't get more ironic.

Should have been overthrown decades ago. Health care crises, homeless crises, education debt slaves, public services in the gutter, working people living out of thier car. 40 billion to the military industrial complex to send send over to Ukraine to fight a proxy war? Get it done immediately!

That 2nd amendment was in place to stop that. If it's not been used to overthrow the government then they need to be banned.

Land of the Free! Couldn't even pay me to live there. Honestly, the fact that we even need to have this thread is saddening enough, but when you see this happening time and time again, and you realise that the politicians who control the gun laws in USA and funded by the NRA and that no rules will change under any circumstances, it's truly heartbreaking.

The Second Amendment was ratified in 1791, yet in no way reflects modern society and the country is still living according to those centuries-out-of-date laws. Back then, was it so easy to spread hate so easily amongst the population (influential politicians with a global platform), to become addicted to violent shooting video games and to preach religious hatred and become indoctrinated by hate direct to your doorstop (Internet)?

Rhetoric question, but how on earth can 18-year-olds get their hands on weapons? You cannot even buy alcohol until you are 21!

Rhetoric again, but what reason is there for refusing to put in background checks, or to change laws so that those who are found with weapons are given much tougher punishments?

Sickening, but not all surprising. All those innocent children, and their teachers, for what? Children cannot ever have a reason to be murdered.

I've said this before

I would never own a gun here in the UK

However, if I had to live in the crazy gun country then I'd definitely make sure I also had a gun just to protect me from everyone else

It's a vicious cycle that will only be curbed by tighter laws and screening, which will sadly never happen
