It makes me so effing angry that people even go down that line of thinking. "Make the schools safer"????? Like, put all the responsibility for what is happening on the places of learning and not at the hands second amendment apologists?

Arm the teachers? I know it's gun nut trope with no substance, but really, how would this even work?
What level of training are you giving teachers? 'cause a day on a shooting range wont help 60yo Mrs. Mabel the maths teacher armed with a 9mm pistol go head to head in CQC against a 15yo with an AR15 and a shotgun.
Even then, are they supposed to then open fire on a child? Because active shooter or not, even a trained firearms holder like a police officer or soldier could freeze when faced with the prospect of firing at a child, never mind someone who has chosen to dedicate their lives to educating and protecting children.

Anything, absolutely anything except letting go of their 'toys'
These people who somehow idolise and preach about how much they love their nation and government, yet will shout for their right to 'defend' themselves against it.

D***heads.
Already allowed in some places

Of course the ones likely to volunteer to carry can make fairly basic mistakes that could put the guns in the hands of their students

Simpson told the authorities that he had forgotten the loaded weapon in a stall in the bathroom at the Deerfield Beach pier. But before he could retrieve the pistol, the Sun-Sentinel reports, "a drunk homeless man found it and fired it, according to an arrest report from the Broward Sheriff's Office."

LARGO, Fla. (WCBD) – A substitute elementary school teacher in Florida is charged with carrying a concealed firearm on campus. It comes after a loaded handgun fell out of his waistband while helping kids do cartwheels on the playground. Police say Jesse Jones’ handgun was loaded with 19 rounds of ammunition, when it fell from his waistband on the school’s playground Tuesday.

It's stupid on a massive scale.

The same people advocating arming teachers believe teachers are communist union members who cannot be trusted not to groom children to be gay or make them feel bad about being white. But, yeah. Let's have 60-year old Ms. Mabel have a loaded handgun in the room where a 6'3" 225lb 18-year old kid gets mad in class, rips the gun out of her desk drawer and shoots up the room.

These people live in an alternate reality.

Seriously thinking about raising my kid elsewhere.
Republican Jesus gun nuts have this country wrecked.
there'll be plenty of "now is not the time for politics","thoughts and prayers".
Those poor families :(
Can’t blame you one bit for considering it. Just saw Cruz’s response interview and without fail, he went straight to saying Democrats would try and politicize it and that more armed guards is the answer. F him and the like. They do not care about the people they’re supposed to represent, only power. Compare that to someone like Murphy’s response posted in here earlier where there’s actual empathy and logic. Cruz and the co are the main reason why things won’t change…And in places like Texas, you just know things won’t change at a local level either. Other states and communities at least have hope that local politicians will act. Outside of that, what can people even do besides consider moving?

I would like to think that is just a tactic rather than a serious suggestion. If their point is an extreme solution, then they can compromise to meet in the middle (which is doing nothing).

I fear it is not just a tactic though and there are people who actually do believe that is the solution

I mean, I wouldn't consider myself a coward, but then I've never had someone shoot at me.
It's one thing firing back at someone in a 'you or them' situation, but I'm not entirely sure if I'd not just hide in a toilet somewhere, armed or not, much less head into the school corridors to hunt them down.
How would you ever know unless specifically trained for that situation?
The whole premise is utterly ludicrous, which is why I said it's just a trope in my other post.
A conversation point to waste enough time until the media cycle moves on.

I don’t think they do believe it. I think they say it because they care more about not upsetting their gun toting supporters than they do about the actual problem. A lot of these politicians are high iq individuals. They just lack souls and the ability to put the lives of children ahead of their own comfort.

I know its been said, over and over, but I cant fathom it.

We have our own problems over here, knife crime is no joke, our poo defo does stink, but it took 1 mass shooting in this country and that was it.

I know its different over there, but why? How? How many is enough?

Its hard not to despair at this world we live in, its damn hard.

I had nieces and nephews the same age as the ones in Sandy Hook. I legit couldn't help myself from crying that day. Today tho? Like that tweet from the other page, nothing is going to happen from this. About 35-50% of the country will legit think this is made up. It's not even a joke, I just don't understand how people in this country can see this bullshit happening pretty much daily and people just move on to the next one.
