Smart thinking in a high pressure situation, ridiculous that kids have to be faced with these sorts of decisions.

My daughter currently attends primary but next year she will be starting middle school and all these shootings are definitely a worry than many US parents have in mind. Our kids deserve better, the US gun policies are failing them and Congress is responsible for this lack of action. I’m so tired of Republican politicians offering their prayers during these mass killings but doing nothing else to change this public epidemic that keeps killing our people.

Its absolutely absurd that this goes on constantly and nothing at all gets done. The amount of people that must suffer some form of PTSD in America must be off the charts
It really is absurd and for those of us that have kids it can very traumatic to think that every time we send our kids to school there is a risk of a shooting like this one happening. But politicians only care about the money they get to funds their campaigns by the gun industry and the NRA.

That mugshot of the shooter…

Just a child himself

Many of the same parents who have claimed for months that wearing a mask is traumatizing their kids are the same people who think it’s just no big deal that American schoolchildren have active shooter drills in the same way that the rest of the world has fire drills. It’s madness.
Madness at it highest levels. The priorities and values of some parents are quite erroneous. And the parents of this kid that did the shooting definitely seem to have been crazy Trump supporters, especially the mom. Who penned a letter to Trump in which she is stated he right to bear arms and more

“As a female and a Realtor, thank you for allowing my right to bear arms,” the letter continued. “Allowing me to be protected if I show a home to someone with bad intentions. Thank you for respecting that Amendment.” She also signed it as: “A hard working Middle Class Law Abiding Citizen who is sick of getting [Poor language removed] in the ass and would rather be grabbed by the puss y.”

His parents really are at fault too. They should have kept their weapons under lock so their son, who they knew had behavior issues, didn’t have access to it. They are as guilty in this tragedy as their son is.

Keeping it classy. You can count on me to walk straight out the door and call another realtor if I’m ever being shown a house by someone openly walking around with a firearm.

Love ya sass but why is race relevant here?
Because the majority of mass school shootings have been done by white males and that’s a fact. When you look at the proportion of all races in the US and school shootings, white people far outstrip others. So it is relevant because if we are going to look for solutions and the root of the problem regarding these gun issues then we have to recognize and figure out why all these white kids feel the need to behave in this aggressive manner.

Same here, there is no way I would have her as my realtor.

I’ve always been puzzled by so many Republican women that have no only justify, but encourage Trump’s predator sexual behavior throughout the years. Maybe instead of writing letters to the President she should have been more focused on her son’s mental health.

That’s fair but I go back to the whole concept of correlation doesn’t mean causation. There are so many variables that need to be considered. It’s essentially the same as someone saying, the majority of gang shootings are done by African Americans. Race isn’t the cause of what’s happening in my mind. It’s one of many many variables but almost always the one people tend to fixate on. You can’t change someone’s race. But you can root cause the other circumstances leading to problems and react to those. Just my opinion.

Is this, at least in part, a question of access to firearms?

I'm coming up with the ethnicity ratio of the perpetrators of mass shootings generally being proportional to the broader demographic makeup of the United States as a whole, within the ranges you'd expect for a small sample size. School shootings are another ball of wax, as you point out. I'm showing that it's about a coin toss on whether or not any given school shooter was of legal age to buy a gun. Since access to a firearm is a necessary condition for a school shooting, and white parents are more likely than parents of other ethnicities to own guns, it would seem to follow that whites would be somewhat more likely to be the perpetrators.

Since whites are much, much more likely to be the perpetrators, I am skeptical that this accounts for all of the variance. It's possible; the general affluence of an average school shooter means that those that are of age to purchase a firearm are probably more likely to be able to afford to buy one than a prospective minority shooter. Explaining the result in this way doesn't require positing a cultural reason for why white kids are disproportionately the perpetrators in school shootings, but simultaneously are not in other contexts. The cultural arguments that I've seen generally fail to explain that disparity.
