THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — An armed man dressed in black opened fire late Wednesday night inside a crowded country and western dance hall in Thousand Oaks, Calif., killing at least 12 people, including a sheriff’s deputy who had responded to the scene. The gunman was also dead.

The shooting came just over a year after 58 people were killed at a country music festival in Las Vegas when a gunman opened fire from a high-rise hotel room. There was an eerie parallel between the two shootings as some of the same people who emerged from the bar, the Borderline Bar & Grill, described having survived the shooting on the Las Vegas Strip.
...
A witness interviewed by ABC7.com said that the violence started when the gunman walked up to the entrance to the bar, shot a security guard and a cashier, and deployed a smoke bomb.

I'm just so tired

This is what I'm feeling. It used to be shock and outrage, but sadly this is happening so frequently and because apparently nothing will ever be done to try and fix it that I'm too drained to really get emotionally charged.

I just hope that we don't see scenes like Sandy Hook again. I hate you 'merica. (No offence to the nice people that live there)

Since we clearly aren’t going to do anything about access to guns I wonder if at least not giving shooters the notoriety a lot seem to crave will at least help on the margins.

Since it is CNN doing it, cue the right saying they are withholding the name/identity because the shooter is a Muslim/immigrant/socialist/insert your favorite bogeyman

The one thing I will say about this latest shooting.

When I first read about it , it said witnesses said it was a middle Eastern man that was the shooter.

Except it was a white male former marine.

Yeah, that's racism in a nutshell

How disheartening that this is where we are in the discussion of gun control.

Limited magazine capacity so people can try to get away after fewer shots fired when the mass murderer shows up
Yep but the pragmatist in me feels we probably have a better chance of getting such things into law (and also things like gun violence restraining orders, bump stock bans etc) so would welcome more focus on them.
