Could have got the ball rolling after one of the last few hundred or so times a school has been shot up I reckon.

Realistically, nothing will be done. Republicans will point at mental health and do nothing about that either and we'll be back talking about this in a couple of weeks in the aftermath of the next massacre. It's sad, but there's more likelihood of the Union collapsing then there ever being any movement on this issue. I feel sorry for anyone who actually has to live over there and bang their heads against this particular brick wall every few weeks, but school massacres are as American as Apple Pie now.

Exactly. They have started that already even Trump said he would "make it a priority". Which we know means do nothing.

Mental health discussions and subsequent treatment has taken years and it is not easy to combat.

Sure little has been done to tackle PTSD and mental health issues in general in the military. They are slowly getting better at helping but a lot of it is outside resources and charities pumping time and effort and cash to help.

They know it costs a lot of money and a lot of time of effort and they will not want to spend it. They will talk a big game as always and then do nothing.

I suppose the problem with this is that the sort of mindset (that leads people to carry out atrocities of this kind) is not one that you can medicate or spend money on to go away; you are talking about social change on a massive scale to try to reduce the number of (or ideally stop the creation of) people who are enraged because they feel as if their life has been ended by someone else, be it teachers, contemporaries at school, the boss, the ex wife, mom etc. Its probably not unrrelated to their comparatively higher suicide rate as well.

Utter madness

Ah yes make schools like prisons haha!! How comforting...

The teachers carrying guns is utter stupidity.

They do know that most of these kids come in now with tactical gear on. I know this chap didn't but wasn't the last two guys wearing SWAT like tactical gear. The guy in the cinema too wore tactical gear.

What difference would a teacher make carrying a gun.

These kids will adapt their approach.

Don't the military teach adapt and overcome. Isn't that human nature? Arm the teachers and the kids will change their approach if they really want to shoot up a place.

Arming everyone isn't a solution it stupid. It's a backwards approach. Unless they are going to have a go bag and tactical weapons and gear themselves

Sure some mass shooting have been on military bases and how did that work out. A place were everyone carries a weapon.

I am sick of these lame ideas instead of tackling the issue
