Every time this happens we get thoughts and prayers,
We see the kinder egg compared to the AR 15
We see debates on when to politicize this.
We question attitudes to mental illness
We see the same memes from both sides
The reaction to this shooting is every bit as predictable to the shooting it's self.
Half the people I know, in my state with it's 'strict gun laws' have instant access to a gun.
This is an endemic cultural problem in America.
When I discuss this, I get told that it's part of the constitution and culture of the country, like no other country ever had revolutions that lead to armed civilians.

This one from the right irks me the most.

Every time we get the whole people kill people and its mental illness yet they have done nothing to help mental illness or pass any laws to make or insist on help for people with mental illness.

In fact the only change they have made is to allow people who are mentally ill own guns removing the Obama one to restrict it.

They cannot keep blaming something and then sit on there hands and accuse the left of wanting to take their guns etc...

I see the dummy in charge posted on twitter blaming kids for not reporting the guy when in fact he was reported several times and the police were watching him but what can they do if he is allowed purchase a gun legally. They have to wait for him to commit an act because even as a supposedly mental case he was allowed have it.

It's sad how ingrained guns are in to the American culture. Legitimately no other reason for them to exist other than to kill yet they are handed out like Skittles. I hope in my life time something serious is done about gun control in America because kids losing their lives so easily and frequently is an utter disgrace.

Thoughts and Prayers don't stop bullets.

If they didnt do anything after sandy hook they aint gonna do anything after this...would prob have to be a mass shooting on congress or something for them to do anything

Probably not. When Steve Scalise and several of his staff and fellow GOP members were shot at by that nut, at that baseball practice all they were interested in saying was democrats were to blame and were becoming more hostile and then the usual thoughts and prayers.

We can't answer this problem by politicizing it..... The answer is to construct bills to address the specific problem. Keep those bills simple and devoid of any and all fluff or pork.

Our country can draft, and pass complex legislation that those who vote for it will have had no opportunity to read (healthcare and the tax plan come to mind - both parties do it), but are seemingly incapable of passing simple, logical reform.

Semi-automatic and automatic weapons should not be permitted to be sold. The purchase of any firearm requires should require submission to a background check and a waiting period. These are not complicated ideas.

Also, the concept that you can buy a firearm, but not buy a beer is beyond absurd.

Eliminate the noise from the fringes and I believe most Americans would get behind this.

I am a Republican (though I did not support or vote for Trump), who lives in Texas - and drives a truck! - and i would support it.

It is not about politics, it is about logic.

What about banning guns altogether?
