How can ' banning ' them effect availability ?

How many millions of firearms are illegal in the United States ? There is literally millions.

Address your point ? Nothing to address Joey. Right now you can obtain a firearm legally. If suddenly there was a nation wide ban on weapons, they would still be obtained, just illegally. The mass shootings and gun related crimes will still continue.

Banning them right now will do nothing. But tomorrow, next week, next month, next year, next decade you will see big reductions.

You aren't going to get them all, but by god, it is better than not doing anything.

I've got friends in Hartford, New England who say scoring an illegal gun is as easy as scoring weed in the UK... i.e.: ridiculously easy
Hartford, Connecticut?

Saying and doing are two separate things.

And that is anecdotal at best.

In the US, why go and buy an illegal gun, when you can hot down the shop and pick up your AR-15 from Walmart, with Walmart discounts?

What scares the crap out of me is presumably people like him are trying to gain the notoriety of being the person that has killed the most people in one of these type attacks. The new target for the next sicko is 58+.

If the right to bear arms is sacrosanct then ok but that is completely different to the right to own automatic weapons that can fire hundreds of bullets in a short space of time.

Exactly, you can ban these type of weapons without infringing on peoples rights. They will still have the right to bear arms just not ones that can cause injuries to over 500 people in minutes. There is no reason at all for anyone to have a right to own one of these for protection.

“Nothing to address”

In other words you can’t.

82% of guns used in mass shootings over the last 30 years have been obtained legally, it’s one of many many flaws in your argument.

Again if you think banning guns doesn’t effect availability you’re batshit crazy levels of insane.

Heartbreaking and avoidable. Do something Trump. Actually do something worthwhile with your tenure. Do something every other president before you has bottled. How many people need to die before something changes???

If you want to get away with a murder, you get an illegal gun, and usually one that doesn't make a lot of noise (handgun + silencer); which is probably easier to do in the USA than in other countries since there are more of them around (though I have no knowledge of this).

If you are psychotic and you don't care about culpability, you order an assault rifle online or you go to a local gun shop and buy one to murder many.

Both acts are heinous, but one is probably more preventable than the other.

It seems like we could at least restart the discussion (again) on banning easily-modified semi-automatic rifles. But all legal routes to liability are generally blocked by the NRA, including going after ammo manufactures, taxing semi-auto assault rifle ownership to great extremes, suing semi-auto assault rifle manufacturers, better enforcement/banning modification of semi-autos, higher penalities for owning automatics, etc. And I seem to recall reading that even most 2nd Ammendment-supporting Americans are in favor of more gun control--the exact opposite of what the NRA wants, since their motives are profit-driven by manufacturers and not by their membership.

Our job today: mourn the losses of ~60+ lives in Las Vegas after our worst ever mass shooting.
Our job tomorrow: understand the role that lack of background checks and mental health screenings to own a fully automatic weapon played in all of this.

Ok listen mate,

Do you think this knobhead, Stephen Paddock just woke up yesterday, looked in his gun cabinet and decided today was the day he would check into the Mandalay bay and kill multiple people at a concert?

These acts are planned in advance. Or are you saying he just happened to take multiple rifles to a hotel for no reason, and that it was just a coincidence a concert was taking place yards away.

With it planned in advance, I would imagine obtaining an illegal firearm would be part of the planning ( if firearms were banned).

Again, banning firearms won't stop the crazed nutcase who wants to do harm.

This was a domestic white terrorist in Trump's highest voting demographic range. You won't hear Trump call this man a terrorist. I'm almost positive you could take that to the bank.
