Many/most Americans wouldn't bat an eye-lid at that approach by the US state against hostile foreign regimes (or at least would acknowledge it as reality). Its only justifiable use IMO are in just these circumstances. I'm not talking about taking down the clowns with MAGA hats here; I'm talking about hard core and completely committed death squads - the American version of the Freikorps (ex-military...and some current military) - who know how to kill and have no intention of backing down from this now. The elite who pull their strings in the political and no doubt economic world will need to be stripped out and incarcerated for the rest of their lives.
That's if there's a serious intent to turn this thing around. The election of Biden alone wont do it. The Kulture Kampf has completely undermined the period where a change of administration could sway things back to the centre.
I do hope that's all being a bit dramatic, but I honestly think not. There'll be a reckoning, and we better hope the state are fully unified and mobiolkised against the neo-fascist threat it faces.
My last reply Dave as there's no really point.
Those that wouldn't bat an eye-lid were the ones storming the Capitol, calling for the heads of our elected officials and their sympathizers.
Yes we can and should investigate hate groups and the like more as there probably are laws they have broken that they could be LEGALLY tried and imprisoned for. We also need new and/or stronger laws against the activities of such groups so they can be handled legally.
The fact remains - locking up/punishing people that have done nothing illegal is wrong. Period. We are no better if we think or act differently.
