I don't know enough about brexit but i thought this was a mandate more focused on economic changes than racial tensions

It was, well still is, a myriad of issues.

But the connection between Trumps (meaningless) MAGA campaign slogan, and the Brexit (meaningless) Take Back Control slogan, resonate. Loudly.

And arguing the toss with MAGA or TBC supporters, even with straight up facts, is fruitless.

edit. And what Jimmy said.

I am looking forward on Biden having the most diverse cabinet in history. It has been four tiring years dealing with all the white privileged men, and women, that Trump chose as his high-ranking officials.

It depends who you speak to, and the brexit lads on here will refute it, but for me and many others, Brexit was driven by an anti immigration, xenophobic agenda.

It makes total sense. Now days many of society's economic problem around the world are blamed on immigration. People want to fault their economic anxieties on the immigrant community without taking into account that migration generally improves economic growth and productivity in many countries. These misconceptions will continue to drive policies, such as brexit or putting kids in cages, by far right extremist politicians that see immigrants as evil and inferior to their own people.

Think they just use it as a scapegoat to be honest. Cheap votes. Right wing economics generally encourages immigration as a cheap and transient source of employment.

I’m sure there were additional factors for many people, but I feel like xenophobia was the prime reason that at least some people voted leave. I was in London last year on the night the UK “officially” left the EU, and the fine gentleman walking around Whitehall and shouting “Brexit won! Foreigners, get out!” at every non-white person he saw seems to confirm this.

There was certainly an aspect of that to it, but IMHO that belief came about as the deliberate (and very long running) campaign to blame the EU / modernity for the decline of the old style of industries in the midlands and North.

Of course the people who were actually responsible for this were the ones who ran and funded the anti-EU campaign.

As a result of the trump shenanigans the new administration is going to have to put into actual law, all the 'unwritten rules' of succession etc that soft lad has ignored in his on going sulky tantrums
About that....only matters if Democrats get the Senate in the Georgia runoffs in January which is a massive longshot. Otherwise I would put the amount of laws passed in until 2022(the next shot) at less than 10 total.

I really really really hope he comes back to politics in some capacity. The guy would have been PERFECT to go against Trump this year.
I really like Al too and do hope he comes back to politics in the near future. Congress could use this progressive voice in the Senate. He was an unjust casualty (no to justify his actions) of the Me too movement when scumbags like Trump who really have degraded women in many aspects got away with it.
