FYI, your own definition of a functioning democracy currently includes:

• stuffing ballot boxes with ballot papers for one canditate
• misrecording/destroying votes for the other candidate
• tampering with computer software/hardware for the same outcomes

Being carried out by a faceless, unelected bureaucracy.

Yeah but if it’s done by the left then it’s ok, if it’s done by the right then it’s a disgrace and shops should be burnt down. Perhaps people should just trust democracy and the people who vote....

It’s not that true democracy interferes with their liberty. It’s that it interferes with their continued existence. The Republican Party is an ever shrinking minority, and appear to know that they really only have two choices for survival. Suppress votes on a massive scale, or moderate their platform. So far, they’ve chosen the former.
