No seriously mate, Sanders would have been decimated. Only reason Biden is in this race is because he's took some votes from the Trump base in terms of white/elderly.

Throw an all-out socialist in as Trump's opponent instead and it'd be a bloodbath - Trump would have painted him as Lenin and would have won comfortably.

Just 2 points on this. He already painted Biden as that, and seems to have had some success doing so. Most Democrats also cited Trump as the main reason they voted, which is hardly a ringing endorsement.

Could Sanders have driven up black support, both in numbers and swing to Dems? Quite possibly.

Sanders polled very favourably comapred to Trump, certainly far beyond the margin Biden will win by. It's a seperate debate, but Sanders would have stood a very good chance.

Thts for that mate. What does the 74% correlate too?

This is what I was trying to show. I don't think the link I sent goes to this level of detail on mobile, it only works like that on desktop, but it looks like it shows how many of each counties' vote as been counted so far.

From this I get that they have only counted half of Philadelphia's votes so far, and most of them are voting Biden.

Nope.

Votes to come will allow a surge past Trump.

Stop looking at the map as it now is in the outstanding races and project beyond it.

Trump knows the end is nigh if this election isn't shut down in the next 24 hours.
@davek I actually appreciate your optimism. The alternative, thinking that Trump will continue as President is truly terrifying. Even more than it was four years ago. The pandemic makes this scenario very scary. For the past two weeks Trump has been mocking the virus, his supporters were just chanting yesterday "fire Fauci" and Trump pretty much has said that if he wins he will fire him. Our nation won't be able to get this pandemic under control under his leadership, at least not soon enough. So I'm still hopeful for a Biden win for the sake of this nation.

How is it possible - I mean seriously how is it possible that Trump is going to get ~11m more votes than he got in 2016?
Because the democrats put an entire campaign on Biden not being trump.

The lack of real substance beyond that would convince undecided voters who want to hear more from each side.

The problem is Sanders would have been devastating to the Democrats and the Republicans. The people would have benefited the most there but they can’t be having that.

who would be your perfect candidate then for the Dems?

Well there's no alternative history, so what I'm about to say will sound ridiculous, but Beto O'Rourke. Proved he could take traditional red voters in his fight against Cruz in 2018. Very hard to attack as he's basically a centrist. Comes across well on camera.

He's not perfect but would have been the best of a bad bunch for me. Biden was always the "meh" candidate.

That would explain people not coming out for Biden (if that was what happened - it’s not really, he’s going to have a record breaking total) - it doesn’t explain people seeing the complete cluster **** of the last 4 years (including a quarter million dead) and saying “may I have some more Sir”

(would also rely on your characterisation being accurate, which it is, only if you’re not paying attention)

For every vote that Sanders would have got from a boosted black vote, Trump would have got three from a panicked white vote.

It's like the Corbyn effect magnified. The US wouldn't have tolerated the prospect of Sanders. Hell, Biden just got basically painted as Fidel Castro reincarnated in Florida and people believed it, costing him in Miami-Dade - it would have been 10x worse for Sanders.
