I wrote a thesis on the subject in college. That was decades ago.

The Electoral College is completely anti-democratic and a relic of a bygone age - like slavery. The Founders came to hate it and Madison wanted it scrapped.

Yep, it's a relic - and a symptom - of how the US written constitution (and more importantly the almost insane adherance to the "founding fathers" and tradition overall) really holds back progress over there.

How can you really be ok with very few densely populated areas governing an entire country? The Senate is a shitshow, but it at least serves to protect that from happening.

This is a really bad argument.

It is effectively, I dont want the most people deciding because I don't agree with them so give me more power because it's perfectly logical in some bizarre way.

Checks and protection of minority rights are important. Not so much so the minority actually has structural political advantages over the majority.

I believe you are aware the Dems get more votes than the GOP. That's not just a moral victory. It is scoring more goals and still losing.

but we also shouldnt forget there are people who live in clear red or clear blue states, who don't bother to turn up becuse it doesnt mean anything to them. It will be wasted. I want popular vote, defo, because POTUS represents the Americans abroad, but we cant really look at that stat before it actually becomes a thing. If I was living in Ohio, as a democrat, I may not really be bothered. Thats still an issue. Bring a popular vote and lets see then. That said Trump no way would win in that scenario but just not to miss this bit.
