I agree and it can also go on that maybe college not number 1 priority but it’s all possible. It’s a thriving country. But just for the few. On extreme levels.
I wouldn’t care if the government had infinite money, I just don’t think college should be free. I’m all for finding ways to reign in costs so that people who want to pursue a college education can do so without spending the rest of their lives in crippling debt. However, there is a mindset that is drilled into you here from a young age that the only way to be a successful, productive adult is to get a college degree. As a result we have far too many people attending college and have a shortage of tradespeople, etc. because we effectively denigrate those types of work even though it’s possible to make a VERY good living doing them. Making college free to everyone would only exacerbate that problem.

Very good points made. you’re right college ii is not necessary for everyone. Just within the system it is made seem that way. Pay everyone much more equally and have college extremely more affordable would be a better shout which im sure you are alluding to.

In retrospect I would have chosen a trade every day looking back at it. And I'm doing pretty well as it stands.

The way to even that out is to make trades/apprenticeships more accessible.
i don’t understand the mentality that your education is free till 18 and then costs a mortgage till 22.
America has a huge problem when it comes to equality in relation to access to college.
the main cause of the racial divide is education and the lack of access to it.
Free 3rd level would help those who need it and help the country as a whole. It’s a no brained for me.

Double minimum wage would put it at $15/hour which is actually in there, just not laid out in one of those nice bullets. He wants to expand Obamacare which I don't agree with. He is proposing to make all community colleges here free, 2 year associates degree. It's called "stepping stones". I personally don't agree with the "free college for everyone".

The American healthcare system needs a complete overhaul. Right now Americans are in a situation where they are paying more of their taxes than any other country in the world for healthcare AND paying extra on top. A start would be the President signing an executive order so Americans aren't paying 10x the amount they do than other countries on the same medicines. Obamacare could be easily expanded upon, the trouble is Americans are getting ripped off.

none of that matters.

All about saving their "culture"

nothing else matters

Nothing

Why else would working class whites be voting for Trump and his ilk in the first place?
Cause he lied and came out with a lot of pro working class populist ideas. Like Obama.

this post is kinda the essence of what's going on.
Trump and his base are nothing more than a racist reaction to Obama, the increased power of people of color and the decreased power of white people.
It's white people waving what ever flag they want, shoving their guns in who ever faces they want, worshiping what ever statues they want.
Look at the Afghan talks, a positive in the shambles of the Trump administration.
Can you imagine if Obama did that? Traitor would be spread thick over every right wing news outlet for months.
Trump had an opportunity to build on Obama's legacy, to fill the gaps with the working people where Obama failed, he was handed a good economy and both houses of congress and all he did was sew division.
What's worse, he doesn't believe in the division he sews, he does it for power. That's all.
Obama had pro working class ideas but his hands were tied by an obstructionist congress so he compromised, maybe too much, but he always believed in what he was doing and he always governed for the betterment of the whole country and not just those who voted for him.
But as Pittsburg says, none of that matters now, it's been dragged down to appeasing morons who want their 'culture' preserved.

The American working class as a whole tended to vote for Clinton in 2016.

The white segment of the working class tended to vote for Trump.

Why do you suppose there wasn't class solidarity in this or any other matter through American history?

This is very much what a large portion of the Never Trumper crowd is arguing. The "party of ideas" that they joined in the 70s and 80s is no longer recognizable philosophically and quite possibly never really believed in things like deficit control, free trade, high moral character and the like. It's now simply a party where white grievance, which has been exploited since the advent of the Southern Strategy and now includes Evangelicals, has taken over as the dominant theme and all the rest is piffle.

What I find even worse is that the people who buy this garbage and vote this way, by and large, suffer for it. Mitch McConnell and the like do not give a single [Poor language removed] about poor white people in Kentucky or elsewhere, except for their vote. They are utterly in the thrall of corporate America and the exceedingly wealthy.

Spot on

I still think its crazy that a country the size of America only has a choice between 2 parties.

I mean how can just two parties cater for over 300 million peoples own beliefs?

Its bad enough in the UK being stuck between Labour and Conservatives
