Except you just made up your own facts. He was very well liked at Palace, Sunderland, Bolton. He wasn't so well liked at Newcastle, Blackburn & West Ham, but they all got ideas way above their station, two of them got relegated within a year of getting rid of him, and the other improved for one year, but have been struggling ever since.

One thing that is objectively true though, is he has left every single club he has managed in a better league position than when he joined.

From your other comments you probably think that like you we too have got "ideas way above our station" and why you didn't address the other part of my post about how Allardyce doesn't get the feel of the club and the fans. It's not so much the results (although they should be better). It's the Playing Style, the setup of the team, settling for a point, self congratulation, and worst of all, small club mindset.

These things are totally contrary to the Everton ethos. "the school of science" The fans can stomach a defeat if the players have given everything and played the type of football that gets you off your feet. What's better? going for 4 away draws by playing 10 behind the ball and getting 4 points, or playing flowing attacking football and winning 2 getting 6 points.

I know that is a hypothetical comparison but it illustrates the frustration with the type of football we have seen. As a fan I want a Manager who is going to liberate the team and introduce a modern European fast paced style. The Allardyce format is out of date and will only lead to mid table mediocrity and lowering attendances.

I get that, but I think performances would actually get better next season, when he gets to know his players better, make some more signings (his signings are actually very good in his past, and I think the 2 he has made for Everton so far will turn out to be shrewd), but not too many new signings though, you don't want to be flooding the place with new players like you did last summer, hard for anyone to make that work as you need to develop understandings on the field which take time. I'd say 3 or 4 max.

But I can understand why you wouldn't have been too impressed with the style. But I think if you have to be real too, he really had to turn you into a more solid unit first and foremost, that's what he does, you were conceding 2 goals a game average, which means you need to score 3 goals on average to win. Which you to be fair you did once, in your comeback against Watford, but you have to realise that is simply not sustainable.

Honestly, if it were me an Everton fan, I think I'd be optimistic about the new season and looking forward to pushing on, in really what is Allardyce's biggest role to date, so he has something to prove as well. Then if it is still crap at the end of next year, then get someone else in who will be able to build on the solid foundations Big Sam has left you. Feels extremely risky bringing in an unknown with little or no PL experience at this delicate time, another new guy might not be the answer and you could end up in the same predicament as you were this season, or worse. Of course you might push on too, but sometimes, you have to be careful what you wish for.

And as for all the stuff about 'self congratulations', that's just part of Big Sam's character, he's always been brash, a bit like Terry Venables, but I don't know why you'd want some meek guy who is gonna hide or act all depressed after criticism, or even telling the truth is not always good for morale. He's a good motivator IMO, and doesn't hide. Yeah, he'll spin things sometimes, but most great managers do.

Nice avatar btw :D

You make some good points & I agree with what you saying..
However the noisy few on here drown or shout down anyone who opposes their blinkered views on big Sam...

Bolton fan in work would disagree with you completely. He hates the fat fraud, says he ruined them cos he didn't plan for the future and instead filled the side with ageing players on big wages (for their club). So when he went he basically left them with nothing.

He pretty much ruins all the clubs he's at the same way, with his short term thinking.

Check out every poll, everywhere. People hate him. He had his chance to prove himself once we were safe. He's done the opposite. He needs punting to the Algarve with his millions.

Your Bolton colleague sounds extremely ungrateful. Bet he doesn't even say "thanks" when you make him a cuppa.

Allardyce got them into the PL, and kept them there against the odds for 7 or 8 years. And he took them into Europe. It's not his fault his successor, Gary Megson, was a disaster, who incidentally broke the transfer record on that Swedish striker shortly after Allardyce left.

You can't expect Allardyce to keep running the club and vetoing future dodgy signings AFTER he has left. Sooner or later you have to stand on your own two feet.

It's not a few. And it's not blinkered Marcus.

You are entitled to your opinion. But I will call you out when you claim you are the majority. Every single time.

Not a noisy few but a very large majority do not want him. The noisy few are his supporters trying to convince us that despite his anti football he has done a good job.

On what evidence, either statistical or experience based do you conclude that performances would get better. In over 500 matches as a manager his average win percentage is 35%. No way can this be described as great.

The top six Managers (all foreign by the way) are much higher than this.

Pep Guardiola 71%
Jose Mourinho 65%
Jurgen Klopp 50%
Mauricio Pochettino 46%
Antonio Conte 58%
Arsene Wenger 54%

And the recent managers that we have been linked with.

Laurent Blanc 66%
Marco Silva 52%
Paulo Fonseca 51%

This shows conclusively that the foreign fast paced approach combined with some premiership steel is the way forward. The Allardyce long ball, turgid, all behind the ball approach belongs in the past, not the future.
