Garbutt played for experience, Besic for some game practise, Gibson the same, Oviedo the same, Hibbert for a reason only known to Bobby etc etc

That's 5 players which makes me think he didn't mind if we went out of this competition, especially with Europa League in mind.

What would you rather have, a good run in the Cap One cup or the Europa League?

Is it just me, or is anyone else not that particularly bothered about losing last night? I mean of course it would have been nice to win but let's just remember; that was, in my eyes our "3rd" team against a rather strong Swansea side in a diddy competition. It's one less thing to worry about and I would much rather concentrate on putting things right again in the premier league, starting this weekend.
After a few crazy minutes of fume, i can take a defeat on the chin. What i can't take and what riles me for hours and......... HOURS are the glaring errors. The school boy errors that are costing this team points and a cup run. It truly pisses me off.

Every game this season we have made school boy errors and have been punished by conceding a goal. So yes when we lose and i have witnessed our lads give a decent effort, i can hold my hands up and say ' fair play, beaten by the better team '; but this is not the case in a few games this season. I'm going to be honest; i'm very worried that we are still making these errors, each and every game we have played.

Why is it a choice though ? That's not how it works. Why can't or couldn't we have had both.

On paper last night we had enough to win that game. We certainly had enough to give a better account of ourselves thats for sure.

The number of players playing for match practise tells me that is up for debate.

The players that make a massive difference to our current strongest starting XI and make it a very decent one are Coleman, Baines, Barry, McCarthy, Mirallas, Lukaku, Barkley and arguably Peinaar and Naismith, none of whom were present last night.

They are STILL international players though (apart from a couple).

Let me ask you a question and be honest. That lineup last night was very much a second string team (still internationals)... but had we won the game and gone on and won a couple more in this competition by fielding a second string; do you think Martinez would play the same second string had we reached a semi or even final in this cup ?

I think he probably would have yes, kept the EL side very strong.

So you believe had we got to the semi-final or final, he would of stuck with that same team that had got us there ? Knowing that Everton haven't won a pot for 20 years ?

I'm bringing this point up because, at what point does a competition become more a priority.

In my opinion, there is absolutely no way that Martinez would play a second string lineup in the Capital One Cup Final.... no chance.

Maybe if we got to the semi he would change it, you are probably right there.

Why RM is resting Super Kev and Steven on Sunday and yesterday? Play your best at the league games at least!
Anfield, Krasnodar and Old Trafford - hardly good times ahead, yeah?

Could it be that the club's "sports science" has concluded that 2 days between matches is not enough recovery time for at least a 60 minute appearance for them?

Never mind what comps the club was in, I do not recall Howie going out and playing a second string. Howie always put out the strongest he could manage after all his philosophy was about winning.

This business of resting players to me is pure rubbish, they are young men in their prime supposed to be super fit and need a rest?????? Cobblers, going back to Howie come Xmas, Easter we would be playing games damn near back to back.

Right mate, remember us playing at Norwich and two days later at Newcastle.

Putting out a side like he did last night means that Martinez's Capital One Cup Final team would be the same as a that picked by David Moyes - a hypothetical one.
