If nothing else hopefully this game will show that Stones and Jags must be our first choice starting centre half partnership. Although if Coleman is injured the thought of Hibbert getting anywhere near a first team start again is quite frankly horrifying.

Unfortunately for RM, a couple of the older players have hit that wall where they just simply aren't good enough any more. We don't have quality in depth in the squad.

The good news is that for the derby (provided Coleman is fit) the 11 that started last night won't be involved from the start as I expect us to go with Howard, Coleman, Baines, Stones, Jags, Barry, McCarthy, Mirallas, McGeady, Naismith and Lukaku. On last 2 games showing, that is definitely our best 11. That back 4 has played together twice and we have not conceded in open play on either occasion.

If you look at goals vs Palace and last night, it is really quite concerning how much it is individual errors that are costing us. RM can set the team up to play a certain way but there is no legistlating for players making stupid error after stupid error.

Whilst RM has to take a lot of the blame at the moment, he is being seriously let down by some of the senior pros in the standards of their performances.

Why RM is resting Super Kev and Steven on Sunday and yesterday? Play your best at the league games at least!
Anfield, Krasnodar and Old Trafford - hardly good times ahead, yeah?

Last season and the 10 previous

Last year mate

I stand corrected mate, this year appears to be the first time in years that the first derby of the season is at Anfield first...

i think that's what we've wanted...

@sageyefc was correct also.

This is the first time where it'd be so Everton to win on Saturday. Well beaten by teams like Palace and Swansea and then the chance to make everything right against Liverpool on Saturday. A bit like after Wigan the other year when we came back and beat City the next game. Usually we go into the Derby on a good run of form thinking 'yeah we can actually do this', but this time we're both playing poorly and not getting the results that we need. My head says a draw, literally just because both teams will cancel eachother out because of the need to not lose another game, but I can just see us winning it and everything being great again. I'm really hoping that this next week of Liverpool, Krasnodar and United can be a bit like our Stoke, United and Arsenal week that we had at the start of December last year and really kick start the season into another good one. We've been let off with the fact that United, Spurs, Liverpool and at times Arsenal haven't been great, so this is where we can really take initiative and get our season started and jib all this talk of bottom half finishes and all that nonsense as if we've turned crap overnight. We can still have a boss season, it'll work out it always does.

Is it just me, or is anyone else not that particularly bothered about losing last night? I mean of course it would have been nice to win but let's just remember; that was, in my eyes our "3rd" team against a rather strong Swansea side in a diddy competition. It's one less thing to worry about and I would much rather concentrate on putting things right again in the premier league, starting this weekend.

Tbh there was at maximum two first team players in that team that would start on Saturday

I'm always bothered about not winning and exiting a cup if i'm honest mate. However I'm a stark realist when it comes to expectation. To expect to win all the time is unrealistic and the makings of the worst 'fans' ever to grace this wonderful planet. I regularly take bad losses on the chin and still stick on my Everton Shirt and sing a few songs...

Having the League Cup in our cabinet would look fantastic. Winning cups was what it used to be all about and the fundamentals or framework of what has now made clubs recognized as "big".

I ask myself the question, if Everton were relegated to League 2, would I still support them?

The answer is yes, so I want that bleedin' League Cup...!!!

The way we are shipping in goals it will not be easy to put right, which is my concern.

That's the issue isn't it mate. They are howlers of mistakes but they get made when your nervous and you feel like your not bang on form. Distins header last night was an embarrassing moment as a Blue because it's impossible to explain or defend him with moments like that. We need to get up to speed and start smashing teams and showing the rest of the league what we are capable of. There seems to be a lot of folk doubting Martinez after last night so he's going to have to knuckle down and find a winning formula that works and gets positive results. We were awful last night once that 2nd went in but now it's all about the RS Saturday and piling on the pressure there end as they don't look up to scratch either
