Martinez is doing what he always does and is displaying a positive front for the media.

He will not be doing that behind closed doors and I believe there were players out there that he'll make regret that performance yet. He said he learned a lot about a few of the players tonight. I'm sure he did (as did we) and that'll be bad news for the lads who started and rightly so.

He still has a lot to answer for, Martinez, but I feel he's been let down so far this season by error after appalling error by his defensive players. Just what the actual f*** did Distin think he was doing there ffs? What in God's name was Howard thinking of when he was watching that cross drop on Sunday? These errors and several others this season aren't to do with style of play. They're things professional footballers should be able to do in their sleep.

I'd very much go along with this. Martinez has to take blame but multiple individual errors have caused a real lack of confidence in defense and thus turned it into a vicious cycle. What is most disappointing though for me is after getting back on track with a win/clean sheet v WBA followed by a good win in Europe those ridiculous mistakes have shot our confidence again.

Basically what happened. We had a lot of possession without being a threat, we gifted Swansea three chances and they took them.

Behind closed doors I'm pretty sure all the players will have had a rollocking for their performances in the last two games - but to get them fired up for the derby.

Distin seems to have forgotten he is a footballer though

People wanna see him fume like how they fume, they want him to give his own players a rollocking on tv. They lust for it. But that's no good for Everton, even though they want it.

Much as I'd like to see us have won it, being out of the COC might be a blessing seeing how many games we might have to play this season. Feel like I'm more pissed off about it than I probably should be really.

But you see it with Utd as well.

When they're under scrutiny and everyone is saying the team's defence is shocking these mistakes tend to happen and for some reason you also never seem to get away with them

The worrying thing for us is that it has been this way since the start of pre-season with no end in sight. For some reason some players have lost all their confidence but at least Stones, Jags, Coleman and Baines seem to be OK at the moment so as long as we can keep them fit we might look a bit better.

We lost 3-0 mate, i would say that's pretty bad compared to the rest. We are averaging 3 goals against every game. That is pretty horrific mate. We are not at a crisis stage just yet but with two games we could easily get hammered in, defending as we are at the moment, the fume levels could well and truly be sky high in a week and a bits time.

I do not care about this 2nd 11 boll@cks. We are Everton, regardless of who is on that pitch they should be giving it there all and i just do not see it at the moment. Effort is the bare minimum and tonight there was very little indeed. I can handle getting beat but when it is so abject, especially on the back of a joke result at the weekend, it makes me wonder what the players are thinking. For example people like Alcaraz/Gibson/Besic/Atsu/Mcgeady/Hibbert etc this was their chance to stake a claim in the side for the upcoming games. As the 'so called' first eleven have not been performing well, you would think that these boys would jump at the chance to put a performance in but they just didn't turn up. All it means now is there is no pressure on the first 'eleven' as the reserve lads were/are not up to the job at present.

All the players need to knuckle down and concentrate on their own games. I don't know if it's after last season people started to believe in their own hype or whatever but we need to get back to basics and quickly, if not it could be a long season!

You've got a point.

Our defence is terrible, so all 4 of them could've staked a claim tonight.

Didn't.

how can you disagree, hibbo in his younger days was a good DEFENDER, poor going forwards admittedly, he obviously loves the club, so not a lot to disagree on and with a user name like Eric djemba-djemba i highly doubt you know anything, donut
He was a good defender. He's just awful now.

backed that up well didn't ya! Clearly an absolute [Poor language removed], just cause he weren't the best player at the club don't mean he wasn't liked does it? Your probably a donkey ln the pitch and hed fold you in half in a tackle, go on a united forum ya mong
I am actually better than Hibbert. I have some pyar boss skillz on the football pitch mate.

Just because you know I'm right doesn't mean you have to resort to being rude mate.

Perfect!

I dunno, I reckon I'd be more annoyed if I'd watched the game and seen us get mullered like but judging from the team it was clearly a chance to rotate, try out other players and dish out game time whilst not being too concerned about the result. After seeing their near full strength team I wasn't really expecting much, and personally I'm not bothered about the Capital One Cup. I know some people are but that's just my opinion.

I did and I've been watching Everton long enough to see it for what it was, a bad result by a second XI away to one of the in-form teams in the PL.
I also 'see it for what it was' ................an absolutely awful, disorganised, toothless, dispirited performance against an equally second string opposition, in which there was absolutely no evidence that the manager was in any way even attempting to improve upon the defensive performances of the last month. How do you improve on previous deficiencies if you're not drilling the team and then seeing if they have improved things any.

last season we played as one unit. This season we have a back line, a midfield unit and an attacker or two -- and defensively they operate as 3 very separate units. The striker doesn't close down from the front, the midfield do not protect the back 4, the back four are well shot as a result.

In retrospect I'd have preferred it if he had sent the u-21s to play the fixture tonight and kept his 11 for Saturday at home to use today and tomorrow in intensive training.

Don't see the point in McGeady, what does he actually do? Gets the ball and slows everything down. He has no pace and balloons everything over the bar.

He's a luxury player that rarely delivers anything. At least Mirallas has pace and scores a few goals.
Mirallas or Coleman are the first names on the team sheet.
