I have long been of the opinion that goalkeepers should dispense with walls and trust themselves if a fellow has a shot from twenty five yards out and they are seeing the ball all the way.

The wall obscures your view plus there is a greater danger of the ball deflecting past you into the net than the bloke actually scoring directly from it.

....you'll remember that during Southall's time defenders were encouraged not to close shooters down as the only way he would be beaten from distance is via a deflection.

I understand what you are saying but the balls do move about a lot these days.

we maintain our 10th position...Liverpool and Spurs (who were last week in slots above us) have been replaced by Stoke (!!) and Newcastle (!!!)

Not the best but:

- Above the shyt on goal difference in mid November
- Only three points off a Europa League spot (well 6th, but that may well become a spot when Chelsea pish the Milk Cup).
- We lost Barry early doors - always a mitigation
- If the ref had done his job properly and sent off Wickham and Gomez we'd have wasted them
- Baines has redeemed himself, very important after missing the last penalty

Just trying to see the positives anyway.....
Of what relevance is the first point?

How did barkley play ? I haven't seen the game.i keep hearing hes played out of position. Hes still finding his fitness.he can't play with naismith. He can't play when he comes off the bench. Against the average opposition of the last two weeks he should be causing havoc

We did play Thursday night, we didn't lose, Spurs lost today to poxy Newcastle. I wasn't happy part of the wall jumped out of the way of Larsson's free kick, and it looked like Baines tried to have the penalty saved. All in all, a point away from home. Yeah Sunderland are awful, but thats the way it goes. City drew with QPR, Chelsea squeezed past the ballbags, theres only Arsenal left who played midweek left to play.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez: "Happy to confirm that it's not the broken leg we were worried about with Gareth Barry. There is ankle ligament damage we must assess."

What did I say about not jumping to conclusions....

The full extent of Barry's injury will become clear around the Christmas break, if the usual everton procedures are followed.
