Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

I cant see it tbh.

Got a real feeling that liverpool will drop off this season. Think slots going to do what Martinez did in his second season at us. Judging by the players there getting looks like they might be moving away from the formula that made them good last season.

Also Salah had 50 goal involvement in the league last season. Hes not doing that again and vvd is done imo.
There is no doubt that last season the title was won by Klopp. If he had stayed at the club they would probably have won the title even earlier than they did.
Slot is largely dismantling that team and replacing the Klopp players with his own, it will be a different challenge for him this season.

Even if we were to get Barry over the line as such given his involvement in the 21 tournament he’ll be in later obviously. Everything I’m reading is that he is very raw so as a fan base we will have to be patient with him . Moyes will only introduce him if and when Moyes feels he’s ready so Beto to start majority of earlier games I’d suggest . Would you then look at a 3rd striker , someone maybe on a free , older player that’s happy to be your 3rd choice striker but then that can cost a lot in wages too ?

If the 2 main strikers have a good fitness record the you don't really need a 3rd. Especially if not in Europe.

If Beto is still here, I don’t think Moyes wants him as our starting number 9 next season. That’s going to be difficult to get a 3rd choice that isn’t a kid, maybe we buy a wide player who can do a job through the middle

Jamie Vardy likes this.

Yeah exactly. They don’t necessarily have to be old or domestic or whatever either, it’s just that not every signing you make is going to be a world beater. Mangala for example last year was never going to make himself the first name on the teamsheet but he was a decent player who offered something to the squad. Bringing people like that in is absolutely fine, we’re not going from what we’ve seen in the last few years to the top 4 overnight, we don’t need to go chasing rainbows, it’s fine to accept that upper midtable is the realistic aim and recruit accordingly.

Yes true.

I think it can become a bit of a binary debate too. Like you either want us to sign Mangala long term, or he's rubbish and a poor signing. Whereas he came in, did a job for us at a difficult time, and now we can look for better.

There's a lot to be said for just resolving problems for 12 months.

I see some people, allegedly involved in football turning their nose up at Grealish on the basis of "what do you do in 12 months". And I think, well we can worry about that in 12 months. This isn't me saying to buy Grealish, or that there aren't other problems, but I don't understand that particular thinking. Like don't have something good for 1 year if you can't have it for 5 years. That doesn't make much sense.

Or like in my job, I have my plan for the week. But if an important client has an opening, or an opportunity for a year, we do it. People can get too fixated on formal long term plans.
