Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

For Moyes to play Aznou, who is known for pushing forward on the left flank, he'll need a reliable, defense-minded right-back. This player would need to be capable of tucking in to form a back three when the team is on the attack.

Moyes currently has a player who fits this description in Jake O'Brien. However, he'll likely be looking for another player with a similar profile. It's unlikely that Moyes would sign a young, maverick-style right-back.
There is an alternative with having 2 players holding allowing the RB to bomb on too.... DMs will cover full back if countered but 4 is generally the number sat but teams like City have 3 which is usually 2 CBs + Rodri. If we are affectively playing 3 10s behind the striker we need a bombing RB or we have no width on the right.

Seeing JOB get forward gives me hope that in time we may get to the point we have bombing full backs like he played with Baines and Coleman.

Depends on how Moyes wants to work, will he want, in his ideal ideology an attacking RB to match an Aznou on the left or will he want a stay at home RB like a JOB which Justin will be. I`d prefer symetry and have bombing fullback both sides but some coaches like it lob sided, keeping the RB at home creates a 3rd CB with 1 sitting DM and if you have 2 bombing FBs you need 2 DM sitters in front of 2 CBs, in like a box shape if you like to protect against counter attacks.

All of that mate, good post, looks a bit of a snip to me if that rumour is true, be a decent option to have in the squad.

Because in most cases, countries are picking their best bunch to play. And there are ample opportunities to get a call-up at any level. This means for coaches from U21 to senior he is not standing out.
It doesn't mean anything really. Players develop in different ways. There are people that got called up to the U-18/21 squads that have now retired from football or play in very low levels despite being the same age or younger than KDH.
….in some of his formative years, Leicester sent him on loan to Blackpool and Luton so he’s never had international quality or pedigree. He’s just another Chelsea got very wrong.
They didn't get anything wrong. He wasn't bought to be a starter. He was bought to be a backup for the league and for their ECL / Cup campaigns. He did a good job in both.

Don't disagree with what you say often but I don't think they got him wrong. In the model they use he was part of the "other" squad deployed specifically for Conference League and Cups. Other than the final he was well utilised throughout.

I'm at a stage now where aside from Dibling, I don't have an expectation that they'll do any further business until Sept 1. It's a bonus if so.

The waiting, to whatever degree they feel it's justified or forced, will get it's ultimate test then.

We start the season undercooked and underwhelmed. Let's hope we can get points on the board.

I've no doubt we'll be busy on the final day, but how many deals they can get done and for what players, who knows. There will surely be deals that fall through too. We would still need to be looking at getting 4 or 5 in then.

It is what it is now and fretting over it surely does not get anymore signings done.

We seem very active though mate, I’d have a bit optimism deals could fall before the start of the season, players and other clubs also have the same universal deadlines we have to finalise squads and secure moves.

I don’t know mate for now I actually think we’re alright with Jake if we go that way, realistically if JT and Branthwaite play, not at centre half - so then what do you do with him, I don’t know if I’d sign another of that type when we have one here potentially sitting in the bench if not used in that role. I’d be alright with the bit of variance in Jake and James as options.

Maybe something to look at next summer.

I don’t know how you define a player as “good”. If he is meant to be act as a back-up and played 13 league games last season that’s mean he was not important for a team like Chelsea. If he is satisfied to be a bit part at the age of 27, I don’t think he is the right player the manager should look for.
