Clubs seem to be starting to do business early, West Ham, Wolves and Leicester all making signings.

Think we need to make a statement signing early doors to convince others of our long term ambition if we are to attract the players we are all hoping for. Someone like Danny Rose coming from Spurs to us would make massive headlines any suddenly other players will look and think "these guys mean business".

Thats why I dont want us going for the Norwich lad, it just doesn't say that this club is going places. The first signing is always the most important and we messed up when Moshiri first came. Need to rectify it this window.

The time to make a statement signing was 2 years ago. You can only make a statement signing if you’re making a statement, and it’s clear now that we’re not.

That doesn’t have to be a bad thing. Now is the time to make good signings who fit with a long term vision, because it’s clear that we’re not going to be throwing money round Like was initially suggested. The last thing we need is to try and make a statement for the sake of it and just end up wasting another year while they flounder surrounded by crap.

A few players are resigning from the club due to fears for their safety after the madness of the past few weeks.

Essentially: Their president got angry with players, posted something about them, they all took offence and backed the manager, the president threatened to drop them all, a few other things happened and then the president organised to have the club's ultras attack the players during training.

So now they're all walking away.

Also the same club who sacked our new manager for not wearing the right clothes or whatever. That president of theirs sounds like an absolute nutter.

We tried the statement summer last year. It didn't work.

We have to now build sensibly and build an identity. Working under the radar is much more our speed.

Statement summer i.e average players from bottom half clubs like Keane, Siggurdsson, Bolasie etc.

They are not on the same level as "realistic" players who would be deemed statement signings - Rose, Lacazette, Martial, Ramsey etc.

If I'm being paid 10's of thousands a week then yes I'd man up and do my job not use it as an excuse to screw over the club
