Strikers

Football is a cruel business, I certainly don't think any of the teams above us would put up with a season of poor performances like jelavic's and not buy someone else. Yet there's people saying give him another chance to see if he comes good? Or give him till January? We'd be out of any potential race for CL if he carry's on the same!

It's only because we ain't got money on tap like the others that people are even tempted to find excuses to give him another chance. If we had money, people would just want rid!

His falling over, poor ball control, weak strenght and bizarre running style all exsisted when we signed him but he was slotting so nobody cared. If not slotting he's one of the worse strikers I've seen at Everton.

We need to look forward not back, second season syndrome is a myth, the very top players don't get it. I don't think jelavic is as bad as last season but he's not as good as he seemed at first either. We need to be looking to move him on. He can't even play the role of squad player or super sub because he gets worse the less he plays. Vic although not a great striker himself can play the role of 2nd/3rd choice striker and super sub. I'd keep Vic over jelavic....(never thought I'd say that)

We HAVE to as a priority sign a top striker. If fellaini goes I'd use all of it or most on a marque striker signing. I'd sell jelavic and use his fee for a young striker with huge potential and keep Vic. Use other funds for CM and winger. If fellaini doesn't go, there may be a case for keeping jelavic, signing a striker for around 8M and letting jelavic fight it out with him as 2nd choice.

A prolific striker is the most important, top priority on the list this pre season. I don't know who, but it has to be a very very good all round centre forward.

This,

There are choices on how to play football.

Moyes choice was to have a striker bringing onrushing midfielders into the game.

Other managers prefer the midfield to supply the strikers with the ball.

Given we scored more goals and finished higher in the table every season than our financial rivals you'd have to say Moyes' system worked.

We don't yet know how Martinez will play. He has previously fielded a similar system with an athletic striker (Kone, Rodellega, Di Santo) supported by a goalscoring midfield (N'Zogbia, Moses, Maloney).

What is true is that goal scoring strikers cost vastly more than goalscoring midfielders and on our budget we may be better looking for another 8 goal a season midfielder for £5m rather than a 15 goal a year striker for £20m.

who would you buy with £20+m????????

Unless a fairytale happens and Rooney was a option (which he won't be sadly) then i don't think we'd be able to attract a 20m forward anyways so it's a mute point mate

forwards that can legitimately command a 20m transfer fee when not being vastly overpaid for by the buying club such as Carrol etc will want European football and a huge wedge each week, plus of any position its the most likely to go tits u8p and prove a bust as history shows, so I'd rather not gamble everything on one player unless it was the like of someone whose done it week in week out in this league already

That is a good point. Very hard for us to attract the calibre needed that you'd hope for with such a high fee. Tbh I'm living in the fairy tale land where Rooney is a possibility but if not like someone else said you could get a couple in with that money if that was the better option.

If we want loyalty from players, then it's only fair we give the same. I refuse to give up on Jelavic without at least another 6 months. I saw so much quality in that first 6-9 that I know there is a good player in there, we just need to coax him out

Its a problem Spurs have as well mate, they have the money to buy the likes of moutinho and other world class players but the players either dont want to go to a none champions league team, or if they do they want significantly more wages and signing on fees than they deserve, kind of a catch 22.
For what its worth im also living in the fairytale land much as i try to see the reality of Rooney

Jelavic's record for us is still fairly decent/above average (how many strikers have above 1 in 3 average in the prem?) 19 goals in 59 games (including sub apps.)

Would still like us to get a boss forward in though.
