Strikers

Jelavic may be fine next season, who knows?

Look at jelavic, who'd of thought it possible he could of been as bad as he has been this season.

It'd be interesting to see how jelavic does under another manager.

How many people here thought we needed a new striker when Jelavic was banging them in? Seems more sensible to help him get his mojo back to me.

Hopefully the next manager will get the best out of Jelavic

I think if we were to let Jelavic play his natural game (like he was when he first arrived) without having to constantly have to chase back, he will start scoring goals again.

jelavic is a poacher , a fox in the box. he has been asked to do things that just are not in his locker.

I'm prepared to let him start with a clean sheet under the new man.

IMO Jelavic was ruined this season given the tactics employed by you know who.

I'm with this view.

To be honest, we all half-expected Jelavic to be shyte this season, as we know what Moyes asks of strikers and we quickly realised Moyes's game wouldn't suit Jela.

Give him another season under the new man (who might be Mr Ferguson...what beautiful symmetry if so).

Give Vellios game-time too, and buy in a superspeedy striker (an AJ-type...bound to find someone usable for 5m or so). Those 3 + Anichebe would be our 4 strikers for the squad.

I haven't given up on Jelavic. Still is a quality striker. Anichebe really proved his worth this season. Just need to bring in one.

A competent goal scorer would have put us playing for Champions League. We dropped 17 points against smaller teams, namely, the last 6 of the table.

Jelavic would never be worth the 6 million we shelled out for him now. 3 million tops.

God I hope we don't stick with him.

yea we need a speedster+dribbler striker
Lets get somebody from brazil

Mirallas should be played as a striker, not a winger.

Would have to disagree, Mirallas strengths are his pace and trickery which are better suited to the wings or behind a striker. Just get a striker with good movement and finishing ability with some pace and let Mirallas interchange positions with Pienaar and hopefully Barkley.

Also I'm not sure striker is the #1 priority as we also need another CM, a Winger, a CB and maybe even a proper*#10.

Agreed.

We have Mirallas for that role, don't we?

As per Winci.

Leave Mirallas to do whatever he wants, like on Saturday, he will cause carnage popping up on both channels.

Jelavic will come good again because he likes a challenge, whether that is with a new manager or a new club we will soon find out.

Will get slated for this, but Andy Carroll could do a job for us, we put some excellent crosses in via Baines, Coleman and Mirallas. But no way in hell would I pay more than 7mil for him.

I'd have to agree with you on both points. Jelavic and Mirallas both came here with the reputations of being prolific goalscorers. They earned those reputations by scoring lots of goals. Given that the wage bill is going to be reduced noticeably come June 1st, I see no reason to dump Jelavic in the summer and besides, selling a player when he's had a poor run of form just minimises any return you'd get on him. Much better to wait and see if the new manager gets him back on track. As for Mirallas.... the best is yet to come. In the hole I would prefer a player of his type than the Fellaini type, but he is currently our only right winger: therefore a RW/RM is very high on our shopping list this summer.

You're right. You'll get slated for this. I would set my dog on fire, then douse the flames with my own vomit if we purchased Carroll. I strongly doubt the RS will let him go for less than £15m, considering they paid £35m for him, and I can see Newcastle being stupid enough to buy him back anyway.

He could do a better job than Anichebe though. Agree with you on the transfer stuff, it's hypothetical from our situation. A bit of a shame he's been lumped with that price tag.

Can anyone pull up a list of PL strikers that have consistently scored 15-20 goals a season over the last few years?

Just wondering how big a pool of players we're fishing from here.
