Strikers

People who've played up front (at least as one of the "front two" we used under Moyes):

Rooney
Ferguson
Campbell
Radzinski
Chadwick
Jeffers
Watson
Bent
Cahill
Beattie
Anichebe
Vaughan
McFadden
Johnson
Yakubu
Fellaini
Jo
Saha
Donovan
Beckford
Vellios
Straq
Naismith
Mirallas

Am I forgetting anyone? I'm not including the likes of Agard and McAleny who have had about 11 minutes between them, that's 24 players in 11 years, considering we usually favour 1 up top that's a startling amount.
Moyes weakness for us has always been the striker department.

How many people here thought we needed a new striker when Jelavic was banging them in? Seems more sensible to help him get his mojo back to me.

we still need another striker even if Jelavic is in from and what if we cant get his mojo back, then we have wasted another season, nah I want a new quality striker this summer.

No chance, have you seen him play?

Wins everything, proper strong, ability for the killer ball and has a cracking shot from distance.

The absolute opposite of Jelavic.

Some of the baseless rubbish people come out with is incredible. Benteke is everything Jelavic isn't.

If Pereira comes in then it'll be interesting to see what he makes of the players Moyes has left him. Apparently he sticks religiously to a 4-3-3, which would suit Mirallas but probably not Jelavic. I can't see him having much time at all for Anichebe.

Hopefully the next manager will get the best out of Jelavic but we need another one anyway, regardless the whole team will be under review from whoever comes in Vellios may be given a chance now

If possible. There's plenty of players who have been unable to replicate a purple patch of form.

It's an important point to remember though isn't it? A lot of people are saying we should buy McManaman from Wigan. Who's to say he isn't in a purple patch and we'd pay at the top end of what he's worth?

Right now it seems doubtful that we'd get back what we paid for Jelavic, so we may as well try and get him back on form. The talent is clearly there. Likewise people like Mirallas and Naismith both scored goals at previous clubs, yet neither have reproduced that with us.

I'd say there's plenty of upside we can get from our current players without buying in new ones. I mean look at how many games we drew this year, and indeed how often we hit the woodwork early in the season. Small margins and all that.

Mirallas has scored a fair few for us, but yeah I think we're all hoping he does even better next year once settled. Naismith is a stickier one in that there's doubts about him at this level.

I see your point, you don't know that the new manager won't get naismith and jelavic firing together or think vellios or mcinally could be our main striker or get 25 goals out of vic or want to play hibbert there or whatever.

I just think bringing in new players is improtant for psychological reasons as much as anything else, it give everyone a lift. It makes a statement about amibition, etc.

And frankly I haven't seen anything in the way our strikers have performed over the last 6 months, to give me much hope that a new coach can turn things around. Be nice if true, though.

The problem with Jelavic is that he really doesn't have much going for him in terms of an all round game.

Even if McManaman turns out to be more Agbonlahor than Walcott, his pace and willingness to commit defenders will always make him useful. Jelavic makes the basics look excruciatingly difficult.

How many strikers have come in to the club on the back of good scoring records at their previous clubs, done well for the first half season, then gone off the boil.

It seems to be that Moyes liked the whole team to work for the cause, rightly so, but do we really need our strikers defending in our 18 yard box? I think if we were to let Jelavic play his natural game (like he was when he first arrived) without having to constantly have to chase back, he will start scoring goals again. Looking at Mirallas, he's started to score more frequently now, from a wide role instead of the central role he played in Greece.

I think we need to look closely at our central defence, our 2 first choice CB's are over 30. Duffy needs to be given more game time this year, he seemed to deputize well last season when he was called on.

Personally I don't think we should put all our limited finances into strikers and end up like Wigan who attacked well, but when it breaks down they couldn't defend.

I'd give my right nut for Benteke, but absolutely zero chance of it happening.

Benteke would be too expensive but his former team mate Jelle Vossen would not and he has an even better scoring record!
Get Vossen and either Pelle or Soldado for the same price of Benteke or Negredo I reckon
