Leeds reserves (remember reserve sides) used to play at Wakefield Trinity's ground. I first got into footy in 2002, so my Dad used to take me down for midweek ressie fixtures that following season, and one week Everton were playing there.
One night, go to the bogs and come back out through the wrong door onto the balcony of the 'hospitality' section (if anyone has been to or seen Belle Vue, you'll know what I mean). Spot who I think is my old fella and start pulling on the back of his trouser leg to let me squeeze through to the front.
Takes me a good five seconds to realise it isn't my dad and when I look up there's this rather perplexed, understandably annoyed bloke with ginger/brown hair looking down at me. Next thing I know my Dad is running over and apologising. Takes me back to where we were before saying 'D'you know who that was?'. Turns out it was
David Moyes. My dad took me back over at HT, and Moysey was really good natured about it. Signed my programme and then said we could watch the rest of the game with him if I wanted and go back to the coach to meet the players, but I was pretty embarrassed and remember vividly bottling it. I'd have been 7 at the time.
Next game there a few weeks later was Newcastle and I got Sir Bobby's autograph.
Been on a stag do with Nicky Wroe, but unless anyone is a fan of lower-league journeymen, you won't have a clue who he is.
Last but not least, went on a night out with Stones in Barnsley about two months before he moved to Everton. Not a clue who he was at the time other than my mate saying he played for Barnsley. Nice lad, bit thick, me and my mate hammered him at beer pong, so I think I'm the real winner out of us both...
