Disgraceful comment saying that about any player.
Handing in a request once which was rejected and he behaved as a complete professional even though during the season he got dropped under the bus more than once by Martinez.

Perhaps he just had enough of fickle fans like you good sir?

fickle? look the word up mate obviously you don't know what the word means, I've never once changed my mind on stones he is absolutely quality and WILL be one of the best defenders in the world and I hope he stayed, but the way he went about getting the transfer is no different to what Lescott did all those years back and bet you disliked him for it didn't you.

also I'm a disgrace for them comments about his legs, obviously I don't want the lad to actually break his legs that was harsh, but coming from someone has big dunc in his name who is a legend amongst fans for punching, butting other professionals you've got to laugh

Very good player but think he only ever saw Everton as a stepping stone. A bit like Bale he's on a personal mission to the top, even if we'd been winning stuff he'd have been pushing for Barca or Real. Didn't seem to ever 'get' Everton the way some players are touched by the club. Just a pro passing through.

Not arsed - Playing regular CL football, competing for top honours and playing under a highly decorated manager like Guardiola gives him an excellent shot at being the best he can be and winning medals. That's career progression.

I've no problem with his conduct either. He requested a transfer and never downed tools the same way some players do. We've no more right to feel miffed about it than Barnsley fans did when he moved to Goodison.

Good luck to him. The lure of Everton over the last decade has been centered on young players getting game time while learning their trade. While I hope that changes, going forwards, I don't think we as fans should hold players in disregard for using Everton as a platform to bigger and better things. Glad to have seen him play in blue. Will be glader still when he comes to Goodison and leaves on the losing team.

Think he'll be more Rodwell than Ferdinand tbh, potential but too error prone to learn his trade at the top of the game. Needed a couple more years before he stepped up, plenty of time ahead of him.

Somehow he reminds me of Rooney who was the best 16/17 year old I ever saw when he played for us, went on to have a hugely successful career achieving so much , yet for me never reached the full startling promise I saw with us in terms of achieving world superstar status up there with Messi/ Ronaldo. I think Stones will be the same , showed immense promise at 19/20 , will have a winning career , play for England many times etc but I will be surprised if he becomes truly the best young defender in Europe.
Now a player with another club and he has no real attachment to us , so my feelings are mutual about him , now real feelings. Contrast that with Ashley Williams' positive statements about us and the obvious fondness he had for Swansea, think he'll have a bigger long term impact on our club than Stones did.

Anyone who says they GENUINELY wish him well is a pure BS'er.

As if you want him to go on and play brilliantly and much better than he did for us, without thinking "WTF didn't you stay with us and play like that".

Good luck to him I say, reckon that little Spanish Fly of ours drained him of confidence enough to make him want to move on in the end...sad but GP just became stale I feel.

Plus there's all that as well...££££££.

Can't knock the deal for what was paid.

Hope he turns into what he has the potential to be.

The tit.

Good luck, lets face it - he will be getting some silverware at City and under Guardola he can take the final step up against the best CB.

Good luck to the lad.

Playing and training with a squad of superstars with major talent, and under a manager with some serious credentials, is the stuff 22 year old footballers from Barnsley dream of.

Everton got their gold and paid Barnsley their dues. Time moves on.

Jon Stones reveals problems he had with Roberto Martinez

Jon Stones
England defender John Stones describes it as a weight off his shoulders to be enjoying his football at Manchester City after a breakdown of communication with Roberto Martinez marred his final season with Everton.

Stones joined City in a £47.5million deal over the summer, a huge sum that reflects the 22-year-old's youth, potential and nationality but not necessarily his recent experiences.

He was part of an under-achieving Toffees side who finished 11th last year and were frequently accused on being defensively disorganised.

Martinez, who was sacked late in May before becoming Belgium boss, did not even consider Stones undroppable, sidelining him on several occasions during February and March.

Stones is clearly loving his early days at the Etihad Stadium, where he has been parachuted straight into Pep Guardiola's first XI, but he acknowledges times got tough at the end of his spell at Goodison Park.

He stopped short of criticising Martinez directly but his dissatisfaction is palpable, particularly when discussing his time out of the side - and the apparent lack of explanation he received.

"Since last summer it has been a journey, I suppose... It's a weight off my shoulders now that I know where I am, settled, and enjoying my football," Stones said.

"Maybe things weren't just working out (at Everton). It was a tough period because I was doing everything right, I was being professional, I was carrying myself well. I wanted to do everything right, try to get in the team how everyone should and fight for my place.

"I felt I was doing everything I could and deserved to play and still wasn't. That's when I found it hard. It's probably a question you should have asked the manager at the time because he wasn't telling me.

"Roberto had his style of play and kind of changed that towards the end of his career at Everton. He changed the whole style of the team and things weren't working out at that time so you could say it wasn't the best decision.

"As you know, the gaffer got sacked. It wasn't enjoyable. We weren't winning games. When we don't do that a few games on the trot, it starts to eat away at you, no matter who you are. It was a good test for me. I learned a lot about my football, about myself.

"I felt it was right to move on to work under the best manager in my eyes."

While Stones moved on to the bright lights of the Etihad Stadium and the Champions League, his Everton team-mate Ross Barkley remained at the club.

Barkley has started the season well, with two goals in four games, but was the odd man out when Sam Allardyce named his first England squad.

"I've not seen Ross for a while and it's tough because I was close to him at Everton," said Stones.

"Ross is a top player and a top guy off the pitch as well. I would have loved him to be here (with England) but that's not down to me and I'm sure Ross will work hard to make sure he will be in the next squad.

"Ross has got that attitude where he will not let it get him down at all. He will go out and work even harder."
