Ergo proof of how terrible our defensive coaching was. And the theory all along thst he wasn't getting any coaching he needed to develop him any more than he was

I harbour no animosity whatsoever when it comes to Stones. He's not a local lad and he's not a blue, nor did he ever profess to be. He played well for us for 3 years without traducing us in the Press and then we sold him for a profit of tens of millions of Pounds. Can't complain.

I knew the basics of defending when I played, if I didn't I wouldn't have been a defender. For someone that cost £50m to come out with crap like that is embarrassing.

Basics of defending, Christ do me a favour.

Ps: My opinion of him hasn't changed, the lad will be England skipper some day and regarded as the top defender in Europe.

I like John, think he has a great future and wish him well but his dramatisation of the emotional toll of being rested for a few games is faintly ridiculous and self entitled - he started 38 games and was a sub in a further 3 last season despite some iffy bits of form and a last minute transfer request.

Perhaps he should talk to Joe Hart about what it is like to be really frozen out.
