Steven Pienaar

I dont think he is rubbish at all just his body has failed. Like Gibson he looks ace for the 30 minutes a season he is fit.

Case closed.

I didnt say he was rubbish, I just meant he will struggle for fitness at his age, which in turn will mean he picks up more injuries, which in turn means he will struggle to hold down a place and get some much needed match sharpness, also some rumours of some off the field issues, which wont be helping his frame of mind.

All in all it was a shocking piece of business to pay 4.5m to Spurs for him.

Given his recent injury record, which is the biggest factor on judging a players worth.

Some laughable comments in this thread.

Such short term memories on show here.

Pienaar is, and has been for quite some time, one of our best players.

People had written off Kone because of his injuries etc... and now?

I think Stevie will make ALOT of people look very silly this season.

Pienaar's waaaaaaaaaay past it. Also he never plays. I believe he will (and most definitely should) leave the club in January.
What would be the point?

He's out of contract in the summer isn't he?

Nobody's going to pay money for him in January

In the unlikely event that he ever got fit, he'd be in my team. We've always been a better side with him in it IMO

Currently. So in your opinion if we signed him in Jan or next summer we would have: Lennon and Deulofeu in his position...so 3 wingers and thats 5 wingers including Mirallas and McGeady...

Think its fairly likely we would have 2 wingers then.

Well McGeady will be flogged (or we will at least try to flog him) in Jan. Leaving us 3, and 4 if Yarmolenko came in - which I can't see, personally.

But yeh, it depends. No team really has a set first choice 11 anymore, do they. I highly doubt, rightly or wrongly, that we'll play the same team for more than 2 or 3 games in a row max.

Cleverley gives the side more balance, it seems, which is why he has been brought in and why he is good for the role on the left. A lot of fans seem to think playing two wingers would solve our problems, but actually, whenever we've played with two wingers over the last year, we've looked nothing more than bang average.

I've backed Pienaar's corner for the last year or so. He's class. But, ultimately, I do think it's a case of him now not being able to cope with playing week-in-week out.

He's taken a lot of knocks over the years, but always recovered quickly or not got injured from them. Over the last year, that's just taken it's toll and he's not up to being a consistent member of the first team.

As an option from the bench though - and to start every now and then - he can still definitely have an impact. But it's whether he can come through the little bits of gamete he does get unscathed that's the worry. I don't think anyone should be doubting his football ability.

I miss that punch he gave the left. It feels like the hole that we have from him being out has cost us that other bit of gnarly creativity and doggedness getting forward? Missing our left side schemers has put a bigger workload on the rest I reckon, as so much of our forward play was generated there.

He's one of those guys who always gets a foot in. We could probably use a stronger back post poacher while Delu is starting to fizz them across from the right nowadays though.

Maybe we've moved on, but I really hope he does see out the year doing it again on pitch.

Don't get this writing off pienaar when we have Barry playing every week, pienaar doesn't need to handle the physical nature of the pl cuase he is one of the few everton players that know how to play football regardless of tatics, managers imo
