It's hard to say...firstly i suppose if we signed him in Jan he could have a settling in period until next season as with coming from Ukraine and English not being his first language thats something to bear in mind + look at how Rebrov failed at Spurs ...

Looking at him as a 'player', he's very powerfully built and is an excellent passer of the ball...i'm not sure how he would do with Baines as attack wise i dont think it would be a problem but im not sure how he would do defensively (Piennar did cover for baines)....so possibly he may suit a Galloway type behind him more than Baines?

@bluestevon has seen a lot of him so perhaps he is best placed to answer.

Imagine having a yarmolenko and a peak Pienaar in the squad....

That's a humdinger right there! What do you think?

Think he and his wife speak English to a varying degree already (she works for an American charity) and they both holiday over there every year as well. Rebrov wasn't in the same league as him IMO mate, he was always a player who benefited massively from Shevchenko at Kiev, Yarmolenko has basically carried that Kiev side for a few years on his own.

Can pretty much say he has one of the best left feet that i have seen mate, great shot, great crosser and great at set pieces as well - corners and free kicks, great technique and can put himself about a bit physically as well - can't be kicked out a game etc, biggest weakness is his right foot is bang average like. Good in the air, a LOT better defensively than people give him credit for as well - just most league games he doesn't have to do any defending as Kiev are so on top - but in the more competitive games he always puts a god shift in defensively as well when its needed.

IMO anyway he is much better on the right side though, where he basically stays wide but when he gets the ball can drive centrally with it causing havoc and allowing him to shoot on his left peg, when he is on the left he plays more like a orthodox winger, still good mind you but not half as dangerous, when he is on the right he basically plays a lot like Robben does if you can imagine that

Oh yeah Kiev frequently use him to launch balls upfield to start counter-attacks as well, with his size and skill he is a perfect target man for fast counters - and has a lot of pace himself as well

Pienaars absolutely finished now, but he's done more for us than Deulofeu ever has. Extremely talented player, just lacked pace.

But had better ball control than deulofeu easily.

But, let's hope deulofeu over the years can make more of a impact.

Isn't it a bit weird to compare the two?

Not sure what else people expected of Pienaar. He best utilised the stand out left back in the league for the last 5 or so years by playing scintillating football down the left or getting kicked for his troubles. He's half the reason everybody thinks Baines is as good as he is. Like the straight guy in a double act.

If we sign him surely he would go on the left dont you think?

Absolutely no idea mate, but if he did it would be a massive waste to stick him there, would be equivalent to Robben playing left wing, best guess is that he'd play primarily on the right and Cleverley would start on the left a lot of the time in the Pienaar role if that makes sense, mirallas and mcgeady would be shipped off and Lennon and Deulofeu would be used in rotation/sub roles

Advantage he brings really is he could play centrally resting Barkley, left resting Cleverley or on the right whilst one of the other atacking mids starts elsewhere

Came to me earlier, although physically nothing like each other, you could make a case for him having a bit of Tricky Trev about he way he goes central and cuts in field onto his left - and a similar goal threat as well

Lennon and Deulofeu would be likely on the right though with Cleverley on the left...thats why i would think Yarmolenko on the left or perhaps in the middle with Ross dropping back.

Currently. So in your opinion if we signed him in Jan or next summer we would have: Lennon and Deulofeu in his position...so 3 wingers and thats 5 wingers including Mirallas and McGeady...

Think its fairly likely we would have 2 wingers then.

We don't play two wingers
