Because he's fine for a back up also it was a one year extension. Hardly going to be trapped with him here. Did you honestly think we were getting rid of Williams this summer? I didn't have much hope. Also the only team in the division with a back up keeper of similar quality to their starter is Burnley.

We aren't good enough to have a quality back up. No good keeper will be willing to sit on our bench with little prospect of getting on the field. It is what it is.
There's a difference between rating him and knowing that in all probability he won't play for us except in cup games and that's only if Silva rotates his keepers in that fashion.

Whether there’s a high or low chance of Pickford getting injured you have to have a capable back up. Stek for me isn’t, and is way off being so. No ones asking for a world class back up keeper. Every shot that comes at him seems to go past him. Robles was prone to many mistakes but he was far better than this lad
Which is why he has the number 1 shirt and starting spot at a Real Betis side that finished 5th last year. We were never going to keep him.
