Who on earth takes photos of something like this for them to end up online?

The only photos taken should be crime scene ones by the police.

There should be jail time coming for whoever took pictures of this tragedy.

Difficult for her and other close residents not knowing if he was on the loose or where he went. Or having to keep the kids indoors while keeping them unaware of the situation.

There's always been a surprisingly large section of society who want to take and see horrific and morbid images. As with most things it's just more prevalent and obvious now due to technology.

Put camera phones in the hands of Victorians and you'd have seen exactly the same.

We have family up in Hightown which is close by so my sister checked in with them through our family WhatsApp group as both our nephews are young, one’s around the age range of the kids targeted, the other is 13 next month. Scary scary situation

He has to have severe mental illness. There is no other way a adult/young adult coud do that to a group of young kids.

Indeed.

Those cops down here got rightly banged up for taking photos of crime scenes for their amusement; those who take photos for their amusement and their own profit should face the Courts as well.

A requirement for people to step in and help / do something to assist like call the cops / ambulance would also not go amiss, either.

As I've previously said, I’m against capital punishment, as I really do not feel that society should be promoting the concept of being vengeful.

But it's in these few occasions where my belief is tested. I doubt many would shed a tear if he was taken to the countryside, a hole was dug and made to kneel.

Let the parents at him.

I speak from a family who suffered a child murder in the 60s in Liverpool and the police then said "you have 20 mins!" Wouldn't need that long.

This is absolute devastating news.

It depends - Severe delusional psychosis can be absolutely horrific and not down to someone being scum. Mental illness can take many forms so a sweeping statement that it shouldn't be considered a contributing factor because 'millions suffer from this'.

That's not to make excuses or a cry for understanding as like anyone I'm absolutely repulsed by these actions. But the stigma around mental illness and the lack of treatment is something that should always be highlighted in any case where it's genuinely a contributing factor.

I also think it's a bit soon to be making calls on motive or cause.

Could a normal healthy mind conceive of stabbing children, to death, and then carrying this atrocity out? I just can not see it, unless there is another factor in play that may come to light. It is so bad it alsmost doesn't seem real.

Depends where you draw the line between the two. It's a massive spectrum.

What causes people to be "scum" or "evil"? Is it built in to people?
