Aye, the Chief Constable herself said it. All the speculation about the perpetrator's name and ethnicity, whatever they are, really isn't helping the situation right now.
The name put on social media could be correct, and he could have been born in Cardiff, or his name could be Dave, Pedro or whatever. Right now, it ain't important.

In the statement she actually said 'originally from cardiff' but on the website it says 'born in cardiff' which she didn't actually say if you watch the video

True but hate crimes are becoming more common and if they can be avoided it's a good thing.
Would help if apps like Twitter didn't have fake 'news' sites putting out names.
Would it have made a difference? Large parts of society have already found, named, profiled him and handed out a sentance. People are actually thinking the police are only saying he's 17 so he cant be named. These people dont want facts, wont wait for facts, nor believe them.
How about instead of expecting the police to release all details to avoid racists spreading hatred, we look to the people actually spreading it
We had people on here questioning the meaning of "originally" in this context and trying to make inferences from it, so I suspect it's been done to be clear.
And we all know the reason why this has to be the case.

They also say MI6 watchlist, which would be remarkable given that UK-based terror suspects are dealt with by MI5 in the main.
A lot of what I assume are bots reposting the same message, word for word about the lad being a migrant from syria, who arrived by boat last year and was known to Liverpool mental health services & was on a mI6 watch list along with the same name that has been floating around.

Totally, but it just seems weird when it's meant to be a direct quote of her statement but they literally change a key part of it in the updated text version.

A lot of the “rumours” around this will stem from bots then picked up by the usual suspects.

Or people could actually take an iota of responsibility for their actions and simply remember the numerous times that online rumours have turned out to be false.
The speed that people theorise certain things is a positive in some ways. You can quickly identify their prejudices as they let their mask slip.
