Spurs cast offs

Interesting article in the Guardian here.

The gist of which is thanks to new 25 player squad rules coming in, (and the fact that Spurs will have 32 players) Spurs will be doing a cull of their peripheral figures.

There's a few players here that may be worth a go.

Defoe for one. I can imagine if a top 6 club doesn't come in for him he'll end up at Villa or Sunderland. The kind of place that has money to burn but end up finishing lower middle every other season. Could do a job for us. As could his stablemate

Pavluchenko.

The others are Ben Alnwick, Alan Hutton, Kyle Naughton, Sébastien Bassong, David Bentley, Jermaine Jenas, Wilson Palacios, Niko Kranjcar, Jamie O'Hara, Giovani dos Santos and Robbie Keane.

I reckon Kyle Naughton (although the [Poor language removed] turned his nose up at us once.), Hutton and Kranjcar could add something to the squad. The rest are dross or past it. Jenas looked amazing for awhile, put you never know, irregular football and a large squad can make good players look average.

What do you think?

The highlighted ones are better than some we already have.

Pavylachenko - Would be quality alongside Beckford
Hutton and Naughton - Better than Hibbert
Bentley - Good addition to our right side, good deliveries
Palacios - Defensive midfielder, tough tackler, could free up Fellaini to play as more of a box to box midfielder
Krancjar - Creative midfileder, out wide or behind a striker
O`Hara - I think this guy is very under rated, box to box midfielder with an eye for a goal
Dos Santos - Plays on both wings, good creative player and has a bit of pace about him

I`m liking the look of what our new team would look like...................

Howard

Hutton Jags Heitinga Baines

Palacios

Fellaini Arteta

Bentley . . . . . . . . . . . Dos Santos

Pavylachenko

what exactly has David Bentley done in the last few years to deserve such praise and why wouldn't he continue in a similarly ineffective vein at Everton? It's hardly like we've got a magic touch when it comes to injury prone players.

Kranjcar for me, as we need to replace Pienaar on the wing.

I'd probably take a pass at the rest. Spurs may demand top dollar for their players but with so many to shift they are gonna have to take a hit on some of them.

I think they'll still play hard ball with their premier league rivals though, especially a team like Everton that regularly takes points of them.

Pavyluchenko. His goals per game ratio is very good and we need a striker. Not that we could afford his fee or wages mind, but still, would be nice.

No sugar for Dos Santos? He always seems to play well for Mexico and he is quick, something Everton is in dire need of.

O'hara and Kranjar for me, O'hara has been injury prone, but on his day, tough tackler with goals in him, Kranjar would be an excellent signing, not the quickest but good feet and scores some crackers, doubt these 2 woulld cause any problems with wage structure, probably cost 5-6m each (hopefully in our price range), hopefully if we offloaded a few, these would improve the squad considerably.

Do you think Krankjar offers anything more than Leon? - Personally I don't.

I'll be happy with a loan move or two being perfectly honest. To get any of these we'd need to sell someone, which is likely to happen anyway, but if we don't then I'm good with a loan move.

Even if it's for Kyle Naughton. But I'll take Niko Kranjcar any day of the week.

O Hara would be a cracking little signing, Robbie K can still do a job at this level and could be a good foil for Beckford, Kranjkar as well i rate as an inside forward.

O'Hara is defo a Moyes type signing, his missus is scouse as well.

Steven Pienaar ?

*cough cough*

Only Bassong would interest me, as he is a left footed CB, who can also play LB. Rest of them are either not better than what we have (don't see Krajncar as a better player than Osman for example) or are just too high risk/has beens (Keane, Bentley, etc...).

Could consider O'Hara as well, but he desperately wants a first team football, something we couldn't offer him on regular basis. Plus Wolves will have a money to buy him out from Spurs, as they are in good financial shape. And I would take Vaughan from Blackpool over him.
