Spurs cast offs

I think we need to consider value for money. Take a look at the players ages.

Hutton- will be 27 next season.
Jenas- 29 next season.
Pavlyuchenko- 30 next season.
Palacios- 27 next season.
Naughton- 23 next season.
Defoe- 29 next season.
Bassong- 25 next season.
Kranjcar- 27 next season.
Bentley- 27 next season.
Dos Santos- 23 next season.
O'Hara- 25 next season.

Any player who we sign over the age of 27 is likely to have peaked and their value will only diminish. That immediately rules out paying market value for half the players mentioned.

Naughton is a good player. You'd imagine that Spurs will recall Walker and that he'll be their first choice right back next season. Corluka can also cover that position. If I was in Redknapp's shoes I would keep Naughton and offload Hutton. Do we really need another right back ourselves though? We currently have three on the books. If Chica arrives, he can also play there.

Bassong wants a move. If Spurs hadn't beaten us to him, we might have signed him instead of Distin. He's still got three years left on his current deal, so he wouldn't be cheap. We couldn't afford to pay a lot of money for a bench-warmer. As Tottenham have King, Dawson, Kaboul, Gallas and Woodgate already, maybe they'll let us take him on loan?

Dos Santos looked handy in the World Cup, but has only made 10 appearances for Spurs in 3 years. He'd be a big gamble for us unless we were able to take him on loan or a cut price deal.

I don't think O'Hara is what we need. He's an industrious wide-midfielder, but we need someone who can beat a man and make something happen out of nothing.

By the way, Redknapp recently said that he needs to 'make room' for new players. I don't think that's to do with quotas. I think it's 'sell to buy'. If it's good enough for Spurs, why should we be so against recycling money?

I think its both billy, they need the money for transfers but the quotas will play into it. They are hardly gonna have a load of players on their books, taking wages that aren't eligible to play.

I can only see Kranjcar as someone who will improve our squad, but I know Moyesie has had past interest in Jenas so that is the one that has the most realistic chance of happening.

It will be interesting to see whether they spend any more than they recoup. I think they'll be shopping for bargains like Pienaar or future prospects such as Naughton rather than top class internationals.

They will spend big, as they are ready to spend big for a new centre forward. Probably players on other positions will be bargains and interesting prospects.

dunno. They are a fairly rich club and they would've got a load of cash from the Champions league this season. Not being in it the second season may have hit them. They'll still probably spend big. They always do.

When Moyes was interested in Jenas it was just before he started playing well. Can't remember the last time he really dominated a match. Does he even get a game for Spurs these days.

My favourite player in the league, Modric, plays for Spurs and it'd be a dream to sign him. I can see him off to Real or somewhere soon.

It wouldn't surprise me if Van Nistelrooy turned up there. They could sell the three strikers that they've got and have change after they've bought someone like Rossi. I can't see them being able to pull off a Huntelaar or a Benzema though.

They couldn't afford Van der Vaart at £18m. I'm sure they will have done very well financially this season but, by the way they've been doing business, I don't think they're able to spend a lot of money. I think the offers for Adam and Neville were to try and mess with people, rather than because they wanted to bring players in. I can see them signing Foster, Van Nistelrooy, maybe one more senior player and a younger player.

They were meant to have bid for 22 different players in addition the two they actually bought this january. According to this article anyway.

I think they were trying to stitch other people up personally. It's difficult to see how they would have accommodated Charlie Adam in midfield when they were already struggling to fit Van der Vaart, Modric and Bale in? In any case, I think they want Scott Parker...add him to Van Nistelrooy and Foster.
