I'll come to the defense of America(ns)....last poll I saw was 70 percent against involvement other than humanitarian aid....

I wish we'd stay out of it. If the choice is a bad guy like Assad staying in control or another Islamist state, I'll chose the first thank you very much.

you should really stick to soccer, grammar is not your forte!

I'm sympathetic to both sides of the argument, on the one hand it seems barbaric to sit idly by while a brutal regime murders citizens in the most abhorrent way possible, but on the other hand I don't see what good a few bombs will do, if anything it could inflame the situation.

I also don't think we should be helping the Syrian opposition in any way, they're not the kind of people we should be siding with.

The British people are overwhelmingly against any action: direct or otherwise...so of course it'll go ahead.

There seems to be an assumption that the government used chemicals on it's own people,is that for sure ?.there seems to be a rebel army who have appeared on the streets with guns and some serious armoury to take on their own government,Sure the layman didn't find these weapons in their sheds or at the bottom of their garden did they, someone wants the Syrian government to fall.
I have no proof or information surrounding the atrocities that have happened over in Syria other than the fact it seems civillians have died in a chemical attack, who is to say the rebel army didn't do it.crazy notion isn't it ?.their not winning their battles, the rest of the world aren't exactly jumping in to help them overthrow their government, how do they galvanise support from the world, and what price might they pay to achieve their aims .
Before Cameron, Haige and the cronies send more British troops thousands of miles to fight in a war "a la Blair" style, has anyone asked why we're so keen to do that ??,there's united nations,a collective force from around the world could be pulled together ,but no,we'll be told that it's imperative we do action now ,without support. though this war has been going on for a long time now.
Why do we always without fail jump when USA ask us to,every time,Oh we'll get some spiel from Obama about the special bond between our two countries,Cameron will look like a love sick puppy on the words of the speech, and we'll do whatever they want.
don't remember them coming on board with us over the Falklands though, sat on the fence there alright !!!.
I don't want to offend posters on the forum,if I have than I apologise,I get a wee bit annoyed at how easily we believe what we're told.would like to know the facts and go through legal and international channels before we commit more troops to fight and possibly die in countries while other nations go about their business.

Why cant the UN just say "right all you f'kin balkan countries it's your turn know so get stuck into them".

First thought, it's nothing to do with us. However, we are still a member of the UN Security Council and so we have responsibilities. The use of chemical weapons on your own populace is disgraceful, but also suggests that if they are willing to do so then they wouldn't think twice about using such weapons on others, that's why this has become a red line issue. I have no doubt that the US and the UK will be will be firing off missiles, shortly after the Russians have evacuated their bases in Syria.....

Its a civil war, with both sides committing atrocities against each other and innocent civilians. Its only going to end up like Lybia were the winners slaughter the losers once they have control(not really shown by our media because that would make us look bad as we had a hand in it).Its not a case of good V's evil.

The chemical weapons attack stinks of a set up to me, plus as somebody else has said why is it ok to slaughter people with bullets, bombs and artillery but woe betide them if you use some kind of chemical, like it matters much to the victims who die in agony either way.

We'll always have war mongers who think its a good idea to get involved in other countries disputes because the millitary is a massive economy and the more wars were involved in the more money that is spent on it thus making plenty of rich people even richer.

Our goverments just wait or concieve for the right time to get involved, a time when they can actually make out they are the force of good in this evil situation.

I feel we shouldn't be giving any millitary aid as neither side is going to be friendly to us and it will open a whole new can of worms. Civillian aid should be given instead.
