Thing is, we get slated when we do nothing (no oil involved, US doesn't want to know) and then we get slated when we do get involved (war mongering cowboys).
Thats the fun of being the guy at the top. Every single thing you do is going to piss someone off. And when you are as big, powerful and influential as the US, it will effect a whole lot of people, either by your actions or inaction's.

Iraq had some pretty decent kit too, and we had no problem penetrating (giggity giggity) their defenses. Plus now we have these UAV's and lots of cruise missiles. In fact we have 4 Ohio class subs converted to carry TLAM's. Each one can carry up to 144 TLAM's at once. Thats enough to do some serious damage, even with heavily defended belts.

Mine was tongue in cheek. I was on a SSBN and can appreciate the sheer power of the weapons a little more than the layman. Our job is to maintain deterrence. They are nasty, nasty weapons that should never be used again.

America has been itching to get involved for a long time. It's one big game to keep the yanks at the top of the tree and weaken Russia and isolate Iran. All the nonsense about not standing by while chemical weapons are used is a cover.
This could end really really badly. And it won't be the ones shouting the loudest who's kids will be put in the firing line.
Well, as of right now it is just tactical strike being talked about. No invasion is on the horizon. No boots will be on the ground.
Uhmm, Russia don't have much of a conventional military right now. Most of their hardware is still not up to par. The money they do have they sink into maintaining their nuclear capability, which they think protects them from the US.
