While I understand your sentiments, especially where your family is concerned and your military connections, I can't agree with your logic here.

Once someone commits to gassing their own people, I think it's more than fair to say that a person like that can't be reasoned with. Normal diplomatic options don't exist. If the death of Bashir Assad means that no more Syrians die, then I'm all for it.

Now, that said, I'm not gung-ho here for going in gang busters with "troops on the ground." I'd prefer, if possible, a more surgical strike on his military apparatus which, I would hope, would neutralize his ability to not only fight back, but neutralize his ability to kill more Syrians.

I get where your coming from in terms of putting men and women in harms way but in my opinion, he crossed the point of no return in killing his own people with chemical weapons. He needs to be eliminated, preferably by his own people.

Ask yourself this what if the rebels set off the gas themselves so the west would get involved , oh and its very suspicious that this gas attack happened just when UN weapons inspectors arrived in town .

We should be helping with humanitarian aid not killing more people but the blood lust is up and its only a matter of time now .

I don't think that's strictly true, the UK pushed for an arms embargo on the opposition to be dropped in May, but since then the jihadist movement within the opposition has become more evident - they're considered as much an enemy to the UK as Assad is.

This is what he said when asked directly about arming rebels: "We're not intervening by supplying weapons, but I think we can with partners... strengthen those parts of the Syrian opposition that really do represent the Syrian people".

They've been trying to ramp up the pressure on Assad by making noises about arming the rebels, but it has never been likely because unlike in Libya, the rebels have very little chance of success, Assad and his military are simply too powerful.
