So, this Syria thing...

This is what he said when asked directly about arming rebels: "We're not intervening by supplying weapons, but I think we can with partners... strengthen those parts of the Syrian opposition that really do represent the Syrian people".

They've been trying to ramp up the pressure on Assad by making noises about arming the rebels, but it has never been likely because unlike in Libya, the rebels have very little chance of success, Assad and his military are simply too powerful.

81Tory MPs had to write to him demanding a vote in the house of commons before any arms were sent , he wanted to do it and was stopped .

Somebody provide a link for Mark I don't know how to put links up on here FFS .

Is the correct answer . Even if assad did use gas let the un deal with it

There's bastards killing their own people all over, edge, hell half the time we're the one who sold them the weapons in the first place.

Sad and that but none of our business. Noone will be grateful if we start meddling, and we've got better things to spend money on then getting our lads killed.

Is this what you mean?

The MPs were asking for an opportunity to vote if the government decided to arm the rebels - it didn't come to that.

Shocked at that. Common sense at parliment. Now what happen to the presidents plan going to get dangerous for the usa on there own without there lapdogs to lean on

It's MP's being scared of it going long term mate..
Cameron didn't seem to try and be convincing did he ?
Blair was, and maybe he believed what he was told though.. Over Iraq..

Surprised at this to be honest. Next time there's a chemical attack somewhere that concerns our interests, we have no moral high ground to retaliate now. Government have basically just endorsed the use of chemical weapons, as long as it doesn't concern us.

I agreed with Cameron - a quick strike from the air to just hammer home the point that chemical weapons are not on, then leave it at that.

If Iraq hadn't happened, this would have passed with a huge majority. Ever since that cluster**** many MPs on all sides are too scared to put their name to an intervention.

Well no, they're waiting for the report, as it's not 100% obvious who has committed the act. Of course there's a high chance it was Assad, but they're takng the softly approach. I'm not sure what's right and wrong anymore, all paths lead to needless death.

In tears here, incredible scenes from the opposition.

I would like to thank those who bravely voted against this tonight, we need to do this properly. Going in now isn't going to improve anything.

It will still happen, let's see what happens with the official UN report tomorrow. Sunday or Monday they reckon the bombing will start.
