It wouldn't of gotten this bad if we intervened before hand - ie. When tanks were rolled out against peaceful protests last year.

But more people would have been upset with intervention back then. To be fair, I think the West for the most part have handled the Syria issue fairly well. Assad crossed the line. There is no turning back.
Your concern is misplaced. It shouldn't be for "what happens after?" or "what about elections?" Your concern should be about those who are sitting in harms way right now.
And your last comment, I'm going to assume that you felt there was a better solution to Nazism, Hitler, and the extermination of six million Jews? I'm all ears.
