You guys unleashed the beast in Brennan. He's said from day 1 we ain't getting in Europe.
But what if... NO!
To my understanding there is no "extra place." Chelsea currently qualify for the Europa League as FA Cup winners and Tottenham get the Champions League for finishing fourth. Newcastle get the only league placing for the Europa League (finishing 5th) If Chelsea win the Champions League they get the Champions League spot and Tottenham then get the league placing in the Europa League instead of Newcastle. Chelsea's spot in the Europa League is then freed up and goes to the next team which is Newcastle.

I've just had a look at on Uefa's official site looking for clarification and it appears we have a chance.
If Chelsea beat Bayern by more than two goals our countries Uefa co-efficient is improved by 312 points. This takes us 6000 points above Portugal which means we gain a further Europa League place and they lose one.
So all we need is for Chelski to beat Bayern by two and it's on!!!![]()
The EPL site is a little unclear about whether an extra place is gained or not, I have actually emailed them for clarification, will post the response (if I get one). Until then we should all assume that the English FA gets 7 places total in European competitions, 4 CL, 3 EL.
Here are the possible qualification scenarios:
(Key - UCL = UEFA Champions League, BPL = Barclays Premier League)
CHELSEA WIN UCL
Chelsea qualify for the Champions League, with their FA Cup Europa League place going to the highest-placed Barclays Premier League team which has not already qualified for Europe. Liverpool qualify for the Europa League through winning the Carling Cup and the Champions League places will be decided as outlined above.
CHELSEA LOSE UCL FINAL, FINISH IN TOP FOUR IN BPL
Chelsea qualify for the Champions League, with their FA Cup winners' Europa League spot going to the highest-placed Barclays Premier League team which has not qualified for the Champions League. Liverpool qualify for the Europa League courtesy of winning the Carling Cup.
CHELSEA LOSE UCL FINAL, FINISH FIFTH IN BPL
Chelsea qualify for the Europa League with Liverpool (Carling Cup winnners) and the sixth-placed team also entering the Europa League.
CHELSEA LOSE UCL FINAL, FINISH SIXTH IN BPL
Chelsea qualify for the Europa League with Liverpool (Carling Cup winners) and the fifth-placed team also entering the Europa League.
FFS!!! There are already several threads on this!! It has already been answered!! WE ARE NOT IN EUROPE NEXT YEAR!! If you wanna know why go and find the threads. And forget the PL, they are clueless, and it's what UEFA says that counts.
