We did pretty well in 07/08 did we not?

To be honest that was my initial thought, that we were the only team to have done well in the league and Uefa Cup since it meant playing Thursday/Sunday.

But looking back, maybe that cost us 4th place that year. Although that may be just revisionism on my part, maybe it was being knocked out by Fiorentina that did us in.

Yeah, we did a lot better in the league when we were still in it then afterwards. Maybe that was due to exhaustion because of the number of games or maybe we lost heart after losing two big cup games to Fiorentina and Chelsea so close together. I always thought it was the latter but it's one of those things we'll never know.

Because this paragraph comes under the UEFA Champions League heading, I would read this to mean they're saying "No extra domestic place [for the Champions League] can be gained by winning the UEFA Champions League...."

while the following paragraph states "...the national association of the title-holder is entitled to one additional place in the UEFA Europa League"

surely it would of been mentioned on the os or by one of the journos in Moyes's pressers though. I just think it's very unclear. announcements should be made by the pl to confirm the exact nature of the situation.

I'd hate to be cheering on Bayern as I'm planning to do and then find out later that them winning the CL cost us a place in the EL next season. As you say, clarity is required here. Brennan91 might know for sure.

The confusion is in the wording, just as the rules pre-Everton-05 assumed the winner of the Champions League was half arsed enough to qualify in one of the FOUR spots available, this assumes the winner of the Champions League finished in a Europa League spot.

If Chelsea had nabbed 5th and won the CL, the "extra place" would be 6th place. As it is, the extra place created is for Newcastle in 5th, as their spot gets given to Spurs.
