...I thought Carragher was very reasonable. I have had an insight into his character when he was a young footballer and some of this will be uncomfortable for him but he says he'll put some training kit on later and get out with Lukaku. A lot of praise for the Schneiderlin signing.

1). Undoubtedly. He is better than we currently have as back up striker though and in certain games could help Ross on the creativity side.
2). Not sure any if our young lads that are ready to step up can be compared to him tbh, so don't think he'll necessarily be holding any particular player back. Also, depending on how the FA cup quarters go, it's looking very likely that we'll be playing European football next season. We'll need a bigger squad and there will be ample opportunity for our younger players who are ready for a run out with the seniors.
3). Fully agree. But I would consider this more of a Gareth Barry signing than a Mark Hughes/Gazza/Ginola. His experience could be very important as we try and break into the Champions league positions.
4). Big issue. All depends on how much he costs and his salary demands. I certainly wouldn't want to pay over £10m fee or £100k pw. You need to appreciate that, despite the hate of a lot of English people, he is still a massive name worldwide, and his signing would increase our clubs profile no end. Just signing him would generate extra income for us from shirt sales etc, but also from the level of sponsorship we'll be able to attract. He could also help us attract a better level of player too.
5). Massive issue for me. Our fan base is polarised on Rooney and I can understand why. Personally, I'd welcome him back with no hard feelings, but certainly wouldn't dream of standing in judgement of fans that don't hold the same view. It's a very emotive subject and each is entitled to their view. However my concern is that this could spill over on match days, especially if Rooney is having a bad game, and I fear this could affect the team.

For this to work, Rooney would need to accept a different type of role than he is used to. He wouldn't be an automatic starter but with Europe there should be plenty of opportunity for him, plus I think he would relish the opportunity to work with some of our younger players and be able to pass on his experience to them. At this stage in his career, I think he would be revitalised. Let's be honest, it's going to be hard to attract anyone better to play second fiddle to rom up front, or to bring the guile (which he still has) and experience to our forward play. He would do a turn in the short term and give us time to bring through and develop some younger players, whether they be bought in or from our academy.

If the financial side is acceptable, it would get a thumbs up from me;)

1) You are correct, but shouldn't we be using our wages and financial clout to attract boss young players instead?
2) If him joining meant that Davies wouldn't get a game, would you be happy?
3) Glad we agree on this, but not sure of the Gareth Barry comparisons. GazBaz's strength is his ability to read the game which is vital in the position he is in. Was Rooney ever as good at doing that?
4) £100k/week on a 32-year old player. Think about that for a second. Rumour has it we are going to offer Rom the same, but with Rom's constant goal threat and being a beast up front he is, in footballing terms, worth the money.
5) Here's the problem. Rooney is a player that polarises the fanbase. I imagine younger fans (not that I am suggesting you are) may not remember him sticking in a transfer request on deadline day, or the fact that we got compartive peanuts for him. I have no doubt that a few important goals would do a lot to assuage these feelings. The team spirit is good at the moment, but imagine United came in for Tom or Seamus - what do you think Rooney would be telling them on the sly? Swerve in my opinion. We don't need him where we're going.

However, all things said, I respect that you're entitled to your opinion fella - even if I disagree on a few points.

The main issue for me regarding Rooney returning is the rumour I am hearing that he wants the captain's armband if he comes back. Based on what? Why does a player who had a reputation for losing his temper deserve it over Bainsey, who has been a loyal servant of the club for almost 10 years? I appreciate my opinion may be in the minority here, but the onion-headed meff can do one as far as I am concerned.

You are 100% spot on mate. But I reckon you will have a decision to make in the near future. In my opinion, if we are going to be a club that can attract the sort of corporate income that we need to compete with "the Sky 6", we need to become the same as them. We need to become the type of club that we currently criticise and occasionally ridicule. That won't sit comfortably with many blues, but, in my opinion, it's the price we need to pay if we're to join the elite.

Of course we will.

And very, very gladly in the case of this veteran Blue.

This thing with Sky today?

It is half a century too late but better late than never.

EFC never embraced the nascent TV age in the 60s and missed out as Spurs, United and the RS became the media darlings they are today.

Even Chelsea became synonymous with Swinging London and the King's Road zeitgeist.

People talk about Nicholson, Busby and Shankley to this very day because they put themselves and their clubs out there....whereas few outside Evertonia recall the taciturn Harry Catterick whom famously banned the cameras from Goodison on one occasion.

We had our best ever team in the mid to late 80s but missed out on a chance to step into the media limelight due to football becoming a dirty word in this country after Bradford, Heysel and Hillsborough.

And when the Sky/EPL gravy train pulled out the station in the early 90s we stood on the platform waving our "Big Five" status adieu.

So yes....let us act now to increase our media profile.

But ultimately there is no better way to do that than by actually winning lots and lots of football games and scoring lots and lots of goals in the process ;)

I must say I loved this attention all morning......and it was done, as one would expect with our beloved club, with a great deal of class and a complete lack of hyperbole.

I can honestly say that right here, right now I have never felt so good about EFC and our future prospects.

You young blokes whom have known little but heartbreak all your football supporting lives.....fasten your seatbelts.

I think you are all in for one heck of a ride over the coming decades
