What I don't understand is, why choose Everton? I know it was Moshiri's anniversary yesterday but he has not been seen. I think there is more to this but I just don't know what. Surely us sat in 7th isn't such a massive draw that would require a whole day devoted to us for absolutely no apparent reason??
I believe that this was possibly a club initiative, rather than Sky. I think Moshiri is trying to raise the clubs profile as part of his plans to attract external sponsorship. Wouldn't be at all surprised if all this Rooney thing was part of the same strategy too.

I was a huge critic of Moshiri's relationship with Jim White when it first emerged, but now I think it's been a very clever ploy. We're getting a lot more positive exposure on Talksport than we ever have and I think today is the first real sign that Sky's attitude is changing towards us to.

If sky consider this to be a success, expect other clubs to be queuing up to take part.

So Carragher coming up .FFS they had to get in on this somehow.

Like him or not, the former Evertonian Carragher has made a success of his punditry role against the odds, and is one of the main faces of Sky football coverage. Much preferred by me to either Neville, at least. At least Sky are including one of their 'top guns' as it were, instead of just local reporters.

It's a bit of a weird one isn't it? Either a) this is something Sky want to do more of and they are using Everton as a guinea pig or trial run (Everton that)

b) The club has initiated this as a PR exercise

I doubt Sky have initiated it.

Why do you think it's embarrassing mate?. It's not as if the whole program is being transmitted from FF. By the end of the day I'd be surprised if the total footage came to much more than an hour.

The only people that built this up into being something it isn't are ourselves. Unless they've been trolling this forum, people around the country won't have the foggiest that we'd all built ourselves into a frenzy over Rom's contract and BMD. And I bet they're all as jealous as hell, fuming that little old Everton are getting this coverage and not them. Especially our neighbours.

Just accept it for what it is, a bit of uncommon exposure for the club, a rare opportunity to see behind the scenes at FF, and a bit more ammunition for Dave to weave his magic.:)
I want confetti cannons going off as Rom runs out to sign his new contract whilst giving Usmanov a piggieback.

I think you're probably right DAve. In another year or so, Rooney could become a liability on the pitch, and his worth as a marketing asset would deteriorate rapidly, because he is not the sort who will become an 'iconic former footballer' like a Beckham, whose marketing worth increased once he stopped playing. Nor is Rooney the sort who would make an exceptional pundit....could not see him on Jeff Stellings panel for example. Rooney was simply a great footballer, whose powers are now decreasing with age. So its a NO from me.
If players like tevez can move to China for big wedge and silly wages then Rooney can in a couple of years. If he comes here for 2 seasons plays a part in the first team, and helps the young lads especially rom along while also developing the image of the club and we can then sell him to China then it's a no brainer. Whether that is realistic is another question but I think he'd like to come back.

Keep him for 2 years then flog him to China for an exhorbitant fee.

....Carragher on now, says he's going to go through some tactical drills with Lukaku. That should be good. He reckons Kane is the better player at the moment but Lukaku is still only very young.

Is this not something we were laughing at West Ham about last year. With there "Goodbye Boelyn" features and special sections etc.
Similar also, would we not be going into over boil if this was a RS sky sports day. Claiming a biast media narrative etc.

He could certainly afford to take a pay cut to come to Everton, but he would find himself to be a squad player with limited game time. Koeman is ruthless in this respect, and I can't see Rooney playing simply on reputation. Koeman would simply not pick him if he felt the team would be better without him. Rooney would fulfil the same role as he currently does at United...even yesterday ,with about 15 minutes to go, Mourhino was in deep tactical discussion with Rooney, but he preferred to send on another player ...Mourhino is currently keeping Rooney involved more out of respect for him than any game changing abilities he may still possess. Koeman is more ruthless than Mourhino, and currently has less talent available in his squad, at least until the next window. Half a season at Everton, and Rooney would be as far down the pecking order as he is at United. Still a resounding NO from me.

...I thought Carragher was very reasonable. I have had an insight into his character when he was a young footballer and some of this will be uncomfortable for him but he says he'll put some training kit on later and get out with Lukaku. A lot of praise for the Schneiderlin signing.

The soccer Saturday lot are raising money for prostate cancer this week and are walking between various clubs.
Tranmere to Liverpool and across the park to Goodison.

Yes but that's the same mourinho who kept mata out of the team at the start of the league, has dropped martial after he had a good season last season, kept Lukaku out of the squad at Chelsea, sold de bruyne, prefers keeping a 35 year old injury prone Carrick to schneiderlin. I'm a big fan of mourinho but he's hardly the holy grail when it comes to utilising players to the best he can. If he doesn't like them he drops them then moves them on, a lot of them have gone on to have good careers after they've left.

Just saying Rooney is man Utd and England record goalscorer, he's won everything. Him coming here would raise our profile no end and make it more likely to get other big name players. If koeman wants him and he pushes players like he does and has done since taking over here then he obviously thinks he can do a job for us in some form. Who cares about the money side, moshiri said we bid 40 million was it for kalibouly? We just don't have the reputation or the European stature to attract big name players yet. Sissoko chose to sit on the spurs bench over playing in a blue shirt ffs.
