Sir Landon Of Donovan

I think we will need another section to the website, Yank Everton Supporters.(y)

Certainly this debate over the quality of US "soccer" writers in the Donovan thread can't be endearing us American newcomers to long time Everton fans.

But, rest assured, I will put on a pot of coffee and camp myself in front of the tv at 6:30 am Chicago time for the game and will be pulling for Everton. If Everton gets and early goal, I'm fully prepared for the consequences of involuntarily waking my family.

Grant Wahl is not a beat journalist like Canales or Goff. He is a feature writer, magazine journalist, and an exceptionally good one. We are fortunate that he has taken an interest in the beautiful game.

Canales started as an independent beat writer around So. Cal. and was able to develop a lot connections that led to her taking on the editorial role at Goal.com. She initially covered a lot of women's soccer as I recall. For a long time she was an English teacher, perhaps still is. She has always had a distinctive style, and because her livelihood didn't depend on her writing, she was able to say some things in op/ed pieces that many pros wouldn't say.

Great writing talent and pretty thorough and scrupulous about sources. She has done a ton of interviews with LD. Would be interesting to hear what he thinks of her.

I'm not sure why you highlighted my post with this response. It had nothing to do with Canales. I've got no problem with any of the journalists/writers that have been highlighted, I was merely weighing in on the relative merits of two in particular when it comes to accuracy in "breaking news" stories, because on the issue in question they are diametrically opposed.

I'm sure I was the only one (barring any Moderators) when I signed up twelve months ago, OK, there may have been a few lurking about, but nothing like there is now.

It's like that scene in Gremlins, where you get them wet, or feed them after midnight they multiply and before you know they're all over the shop.

'Yank Everton supporters' , that sounded like someone being ejected for bad behavior in the Lower Bullens or something.

but, they (we) seem to growing at an alarming rate.

I wonder if they have the same issue with Spaniards on the red [Poor language removed] forum pages.

All this - when I joined in January 2009, there were only a couple - Upper Sturry, Dylan, Tx Bill, Tx Tib, Bruce Wayne (apologies if I forgot a name or two), but now there are more Yanks than I can even close to recognizing.

Think it's a great thing but I hope all you stay after Donovan has gone back to the States...

Don't think the Shites forums have these problems - already overrun with Norwegians. Maybe they're getting some Italians or Greeks in the mix some of the Irish that came aboard when Coleman came from Sligo.

I know what you mean it's good to see a large Yank contingent. I've been around since the old Toffeeweb days in one form or another. At that time it may have only been me and TX Bill.

I'm not sure why highlighted it either. Can't seem to figure out how to include multiple quotes. Seems to jump straight to message input. I'm used to selecting all the quotes I want to include and then adding a reply. Sorry mate.

serious? Nev's our captain and i love him. He lifts the team and our recent good form has coincided with his return!

You have to understand that I only started truly following Everton games since Landon came over, so I don't have the history with Neville or know too much about his role as captain and heart of the team. Judging from the forum it seems like Cahill is more of the fan favorite. All that I am frustrated with is that there seems to be no chemistry with Donovan. Most of the his passes to Landon are more about LD coming back for the ball rather then playing it into space and having him run onto it. Also his delivery into the box rarely seems to lead to anything dangerous. I don't know if RB is his usual position but he also does not come across as a defensive stand out either. I am new to the club, so there is still plenty of time for me to change my opinion.

hi klink and sounders fan- donovan still shines with us but we had to come down to earth after the high octane arsenal/man c games. you`re sick of neville already, he should have gone years ago but .......someone help me out

Help you out by correcting you here.

There's no coincidence that Everton was floundering without Pip and are in good form with him. Everyone has a role:

Arteta - creator in chief
Heitinga - head smasher
Hibbert - punching bag
Cahill - heart of the side
Fellani - omnitackler

NEVILLE - CAPTAIN. Perfect at that, he is.
