sorry hayee - wasn`t neville here before the derby. he wastes that much good work by the team its unreal, hits the 1st defender most crosses,no pace - we`re virtually a ten man team, i`m probably bottom of the heap for footy knowledge but i know what i see. this is a sir donovan thread too -nuff said
which derby? If you're referring to the last one he was injured!

Zed mate...have a word with yourself...Nev is maybe not the greatest footballer, but he's a leader...our captain...he never stops talking, he focuses the team, and he drives them forward....To be honest mate I saw them in many games this season running around like headless chickens, with nobody willing to take control and lead, Nev comes back and bang...were off and running...coincidence...I think not.

Viva el presidente phillus nevillus!

Great point. Every team needs that player who has both football smarts and natural leadership. The coach on the field so to speak. The game performance of players like this can never be properly measured by those of us who simply watch the game in our seat or on our televisoin and only see their contribution when they are on the ball.

Back on topic...Mr D is doin his thang....and a damn fine thang it is too...

BTW. you'll have to get used to thread's goin off topic on here...there's some real monsters about

That depends upon what the formation and tactic are. The more counter-attacking the style the more effective he is centrally. The higher up the team plays the more effective he is wide or at striker.

It would be interesting to see him at striker for Everton. He would be a direct counter attacking threat immediately on balls from out the the back, because he takes those long passes very well. He makes very good runs off the ball and to the near post in the attacking third. He reads the spaces made by others very well. He can drop into midfield and make devastating runs from deep positions. He's not a traditional player at any position as far as I can tell. He's a unique kind of player that brings something different in different spots.

I think Moyes has him where he needs him most, not necessarily where LD can express himself the most. That is the big difference between LD with the Galaxy and US Nats. Those teams are organized around him, but at Everton he is used where he is needed. This is a good thing for him to experience.

Defensively I think he offers greater help as a wide player. He does well defensively in the middle, but better wide.

Good post--pretty accurate across the board.

A perfect example of his counter attacking style was on the counter by Louis Saha in the second half of the Sunderland game. Check out how LD accelerates past the entire Sunderland defense and is standing alone in front of the goal. The more Saha and others start looking for him, the more he will be able to contribute....
