Sir Landon Of Donovan

The question is whether Moyes would start Donovan on the left and have Arteta on the right and leave Peanut in the middle with MoFro. Or would Moyes at 70 minutes take off Saha for Arteta and push Cahill up top with Donovan as a withdrawn striker. When Donovan is at full fitness it seems a waste to use him for only 70 when he can go 120.

Sorry about the long post.

Love the use of the nicknames from a new fan!!(y)
Good info though. Do you think he will stay longer?

In regards to Soccer By Ives:

Ives actually has a HUGE following and don't remember numerous times when he was flat-out wrong in his reporting. He's probably in the top 3 in writing about soccer/football in the States if not the premier writer at the moment.
People voted his blog No. 1 on the US soccer Web site and he people also voted him the top soccer/football writer on soccerlens . com
Just my two cents ...

Ives is good, I follow his blog daily (although apparently I missed that). The figure he quoted is just about in line with what I would imagine a buy out would be. There are other writers still convinced there is a buyout clause. I guess we'll see in time what the truth is.

Grant Wahl (who says there is a buyout) is likely to have a source getting information directly from Donovan.

Ives Garclep (who says there isn't) is likely to have a source getting information from MLS/LAGalaxy.

If I were to wager on this, I would say there is a fixed buyout but it doesn't kick in until after the world cup.

I was out of town for the past two weeks and apparently missed a lot. Watched the Wigan game but missed the one where Donovan scored. Then I come to this thread and it seems the Brits have eased their enthusiasm for him a bit.

Has he regressed from his debut? I would have thought scoring a goal in the first 3 appearances would be a good thing? Forgive me for missing the matches, but don't know where to go to get the scoop on his play during this time.

I think if he does well, he will want to stay. The question that is going to be come up over and over again is if there is a buyout clause and for how much. If there is one, which I don't see Donovan signing a new contract where he would not have control of his future, then I could see it being for around $10 million, which i think is a little over 6 million pounds. So if Everton can raise the cash, then he will come over permanently.

I also would not worry about another team out bidding you either. LD makes plenty of money, so playing time (for upcoming World Cups) as well as his comfort level regarding his role on the team is what's important.

While I am new to following Everton, I would not think raising the money would be too much of an issue. You get what would be a versatile starting 11 player as well as the face of American soccer. If Landon is a full time member of the squad then Everton's popularity in the states will soar and that is an emerging market that every team wants to be in on. You would think that adding LD would make someone expendable.

serious? Nev's our captain and i love him. He lifts the team and our recent good form has coincided with his return!

sorry hayee - wasn`t neville here before the derby. he wastes that much good work by the team its unreal, hits the 1st defender most crosses,no pace - we`re virtually a ten man team, i`m probably bottom of the heap for footy knowledge but i know what i see. this is a sir donovan thread too -nuff said
