Shut it Neville, you belter

I remember reading Paul Gascoigne's autobiography. He was talking about when England met up under Glen Hoddle. Hoddle let the whole squad have a day off and eat whatever they wanted. Gazza said all the squad went for McDonalds or fish and chips except for Phil Neville who ate a salad. Even when he was around senior England players when he was a rookie he was still acting professionally.

Question: is it right that the captain of Everton FC states that this club should cough up another player in the same way we did Rooney and Lescott to keep the wolf from the door and 'rebuild'?

It's an incredible statement to make. Regardless of what clout he has with the decision makers this is the club captain stating we need to sell our best players. Incredible. If he had the bollocks to do it he'd be calling for the chairman to get investment in and leave the playing side alone. But he wont do that because he's eyeing up a coaching role in all likelihood and doesn't want to inconvenince himself in that ambition.

How any Evertonian supports this feller stabbing us in the back I dont know. He'd have been at Spurs in a flash if Wobbly 'Ead had stumped up the required cash in January.

Worst club captian I can remember since the other phoney tvvat Gough donned the armband. All soundbite and no substance.

Wobbly ead did stump up cash - he put in a derisory bid of half a million.

Everton didn't want to sell and Neville didn't want to go.

We should rename this thread : Shut it Davek, you belter.

Agreed. It leaves a bad taste in the mouth when you read people typing bile against our players.

Complete fallacy. Moyes stated he got a derisory offer on the last couple of the days of the window. He'd have gone otherwise - and Neville (the feller who'll comment at the drop of a hat) stayed silent throughout the whole of the transfer window.

Dont try and rewrite history to suit your needs.

And you didn't answer the question, btw. Is it ok for the Everton captain to call for the sale of our best players? Yes or No?

This whole reaction is bizarre - it's like I've stumbled into a parallel universe where it's seen as a reasonable thing for players to call for the sale of their team mates.

Unbelievable.

one of the lads ,who works for the club told us that neville twice asked could he go and talk to them, and was told no due to the offer on the table being small, to his credit he has just got his head down and carried on, for all his supposed faults everton are a better team with him in it at the moment.

Neville stayed silent because it was the classy thing to do as club captain when bids are coming in. See heitinga for how not to do it. So where is the complete fallacy?

How am I trying to rewrite history?

This is the long version of what he said:

Sometimes to move forward, you might have to sell one of your better players, like we did with Rooney.

'But the year after we sold Rooney, we qualified for the Champions League, so it isn't necessarily a bad thing sometimes.

'Sometimes you just have to take a hit on one of your superstars, and take one step back so you can take two forwards.'

What the fück is wrong with that?

He's not saying sell Baines and Rodwell to City for 50 million - although thousands of us are allowed to speculate that way online, he's just acknowledging the financial reality at the club.

Sorry if this doesn't fit your agenda to crap all over Neville.

Yes, as I can see the headline is "NEVILLE SAYS ARTETA/FELLAINI/RODWELL SHOULD GO". Oh wait, it's not, he's just stating the obvious. We are a sell to buy club. End of.
You are being more of a tit these days, davek. Is it that time of the month or something?

That's just horrible :( I feel like our captain's a massive snide. The moment you want to go talk to someone like Spurs then that's that for me. I hope it's not true.

Tbh i highly doubt if any conversation went on like the above, it was infront of the people who worked at the training ground. That sort of thing would be between manager and player, so unless your guy who works there is David Moyes, its probably not true.

Lol would be funny if it was.

second time was in the hotel , before the game, the fella works with the team and is good mates with bluefox off here not one for lies.when a club in the champions lg came in for neville, who is coming to the end of his carreer, he would be mad not to want talk to them

You're not a snide for talking to a team you'd rather play for, that's the way football is nowadays. Gone are the days when most players are one or two teams for life, football is more of a career than ever. Can't really blame Neville if he wants to go and ply his trade somewhere else for better money, he's never claimed to be a true blue.

He's the team captain FFS!
