I’m glad he is doing well, but he was a black hole on the pitch. He wanted to dictate the tempo of the game which is fine if you have the legs. His legs were gone by the time he got here and that’s all she wrote.

I seen the thread title
And I think did I imagine a slow paced 40yr old in the body of a 31 year old patrol our midfield and attack last season yes he scored some brilliant goals but the fact is at his level he’s finished ,can’t we be excited about our attack now,so much pace and creativity compared to that last season

Orders to stay in and around the box? He is incapable. He's like the lad's at school, has to chase the ball everywhere, always out of position and knackered before half-time. Or maybe it was only in the two or three games I saw? In one game he played as a striker, the national newspaper report said 'he spent more time in his own penalty area than the opposition'.

Bang on mate.

The schoolboy quote hits the nail on the head.

Can't remember the exact match, but he was picked as our striker and played 75 mins as our left back.

Couldn't get me head round it. No one on the pitch wad about to instruct him otherwise tho cos of his standing in the game.

If just did a Gary linekar and hung round by the goal he might still be here as he would probably of netted 20 goals

He's been great in MLS, but it's a unique situation - DC has had almost exclusively home matches and he's also playing as a false 9 and given tremendous freedom to roam and do what he wants with minimal defensive responsibilities. He also has good players around him at least for that league. It's been fun to watch, the matches are enjoyable, and the stadium is as good a place to watch a match as there is, but it's still a pretty different level. He still gives the ball away, even though he has more time and space, but MLS doesn't punish mistakes like the PL does. Happy for him, always fun to watch him play when he's doing well, but he would have no place in our side.
