Although his season back with us wasn't the complete disaster that some people make out. He provided the only two real highs of the season, hattrick against West Ham and the pen at Anfield.

This is his level now and I'm glad to see him doing well.

For just this season, and jettisoned Tosun instead. We all know he's on the wane but stick him up front with orders to stay in and around the box and I reckon he could have been effective, especially with the service he would have got from Richarlison, Walcott and the Brazilian magician.

Rooney is the type of player that dictates the whole pace and tempo of a match.

Because of what he has achieved in the game, he is seen as the leader of the team he is in no matter what the manager says, as soon as the match whistle blows the game is managed by him.

A few years ago that was fine, but he has way to many miles on the clock for prem football as we saw last season.

It's of no surprise to see us setting a high tempo this year with him gone. The game is not being dictated by his slow approach.

It seems the msl is still ideally suited to his game. Defo not the Premier league tho
